American Idol Alumni Kristy Lee Cook Signs With Broken Bow Records
Season 7 American Idol alumni and hunting-lover, Kristy Lee Cook tweeted the good news yesterday:
Maybe not congratulating the newly-signed Idol, is PETA. The controversial animal rights organization recently released a public statement criticizing Kristy Lee’s new hunting/reality show, Goin’ Country with Kristy Lee airing on the Versus cable channel.
PETA released the following statement:
“Guess what !!???? I got a record deal with Broken Bow records!!!!!!”Broken Bow records is a country indie, but is home to Jason Aldean, currently a huge country radio star.
“Instead of angering thousands of would-be fans by killing helpless animals on camera in attempt to get her ‘15 Minutes of Shame,’ Kristy Lee Cook’s fame crusade would be better served by following in the footsteps of fellow Idol alum-turned-country-stars Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler—as well as Simon Cowell—all of whom have used their fame and talent to speak up for animals.”
Tough gal Kristy Lee fired back:
“Given that hunters have done more for American wildlife conservation than any other group in history, I make no apology for being one,” Cook told FOX411.com. “Indeed, I join the ranks of millions of American hunters who celebrate our outdoor heritage and who conserve millions of acres of wild lands. These same people support more than 600,000 jobs across the country and provide a critical voice to encourage more investment in American conservation.”
“I’m a big time organic person, and the meat we get from shooting something is as organic as it comes. If I don’t take the meat home to my family then we give it to orphanages or homeless shelters,” she said. The meat is going somewhere and it is great because I get to feed all these people. Whether you like hunting or not, I know I get to help people eat.”

Taylor Swift's First Single Rushed To Radio After Internet Leak
After a leak of her first single off her upcoming album appeared virally on the internet, Taylor Swift's label Big Machine Records has released the song early along with this statement.
Due to overwhelming fan demand, Taylor Swift’s lead single, “Mine,” from her upcoming album, SPEAK NOW (in stores Oct. 25), has been rush released to iTunes and to Country radio.
An unauthorized low-quality mp3 file of the single appeared online earlier today. As the low-quality file started to spread virally the decision was made to rush release “Mine” to iTunes and Country radio to ensure that Taylor’s fans were able to hear the single as she intended.
New Book On The Backstories On 15 Country Music Icons Coming Next Month
A musician, songwriter, and author with nearly a dozen albums and a bestselling memoir under her belt, Marshall Chapman has lived and breathed Music City for over forty years. Her friendships with those who helped make Nashville one of the major forces in American music culture is unsurpassed. And in her brand new book hitting shelves on September 20th, They Came to Nashville, Chapman records the personal stories of musicians shaping the modern history of music in Nashville, from the mouths of the musicians themselves.
The trials, tribulations, and evolution of Music City are on display, as she sits down with influential figures like Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris, and Miranda Lambert, and a dozen other top names, to record what brought each of them to Nashville and what inspired them to persevere. The book culminates in a hilarious and heroic attempt to find enough free time with Willie Nelson to get a proper interview. Instead, she's brought along on his raucous 2008 tour and winds up onstage in Beaumont, Texas singing "Good-Hearted Woman" with Willie.
Also included in the discussion about moving to Nashville are interviews with Bobby Braddock, Mary Gauthier, Gary Nicholson, Terri Clark, Rodney Crowell, Don Henry, Beth Nielsen Chapman, John Hiatt, Eddie Angel, Ashley Cleveland, and Bobby Bare.

An Interview With Grammy Award Winner Marc Cohn Over At American Noise
There's a brand new set of sister websites called American Noise and American Twang that I'd recommend you check out. Noise is an all-music format site and Twang is country music specific.
I had an opportunity to put together a feature interview with Grammy Award winner Marc Cohn for the American Noise site. Cohn, known for his iconic hit "Walking in Memphis," recently released Listening Booth, an album comprised of 12 classic songs that were originally recorded in 1970. Cohn talks about the album and the songs in this exclusive interview. Check out the teaser below and then click HERE to read the entire article.

"I think that you’re predisposed to music. I definitely was. I think that the music that you hear around that age cuts the deepest. It stays with you the longest, and that’s definitely the case with me. There were a lot of records, singles and albums that came out that year, and it became clear to me a couple years ago when I started to sit down to do a record. Without knowing the exact theme, all I knew was that year was huge for me. Perhaps bigger than any other year in music. I looked at the list of albums and singles that came out, and that was the beginning for me in music in a really big way. In a really deep way."
"The music that came out that year resonated with me on a lot of levels and [for] a lot of reasons, and it was technically three or four albums and a number of singles that defined for me what I was going to do the rest of my life. I dreamed about it for a long time because that music moved me so deeply. I wanted to do the same thing even though I had no particular or specific talent, except for that I knew I could sing. I always loved the singer/songwriters, and those records started coming out right about then. They really set me off on my specific path and I’ve been on it forever since."

Up & Coming New Nashville- Daisy Mallory
Seventeen-year-old singer/songwriter Daisy Mallory has released her debut single, “Do You Think of Me?” to Country radio this last month.
Mallory wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on her current EP, Girl Time, including the “Do You Think of Me?” single, produced by veteran writer/producer Jeff Dayton (George Strait, Glen Campbell, Buck Owens). In June, the Arizona native and recent Nashville transplant signed her first record deal with new, Nashville-based independent label, FrontWater Records.
“We are very excited about the release of Daisy's first single, ‘Do You Think of Me?’ which showcases her impressive songwriting and vocal talents,” says FrontWater Records President Robert Dale. “The song asks a question that many have asked at some point – ‘When you think of love, do you think of me?’ We feel strongly that this sentiment will connect with a lot of young female listeners at Country radio.”
Mallory has generated significant buzz within the Nashville music industry and at Country radio in the past year. The video for “Do You Think of Me?” has been serviced to all national Country music video outlets and has already received early placement on CMT.com, GACTV.com and Yahoo.com.
“Daisy Mallory is a rare combination of beautiful voice, performance talent and songwriting ability. She writes songs about right where she is, so she conveys a refreshing authenticity and a delightful, simple energy that draws you into the story her songs tell,” says Erich Sielaff, host of KKNT’s Music Café Radio Show in Phoenix, Ariz.
Adds KRDE’s Sean Cram, “No matter the subject, Daisy displays that she's got a solid grasp on the topic she's singing and writing about. ‘Do You Think Of Me?’ is another fine example of her ability to showcase that she has what it takes to be a superstar.”
The young singer-songwriter has been invited to perform at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Café numerous times (and returns September 26), and appeared in March 2010 alongside Reba McEntire, David Foster and Kris Kristofferson at Muhammad Ali’s Celebrity Fight Night benefit in Phoenix, Ariz. On July 24, Mallory performed a private show for VIPs attending the Starkey Hearing Foundation’s “So the World May Hear” awards gala this past weekend in St. Paul, Minn.
