Up & Coming New Nashville- Casey Donahew Band

With their lastest release, Moving On, The Casey Donahew Band are quickly becoming one of the hottest names in Texas Country, drawing fans at home and beyond. Capacity crowds are showing up this spring to see the Casey Donahew Band's dynamic live performances with over 1300 at the Grizzly Rose in Denver, CO and Tumbleweeds in Stillwater, OK recently hosted 3000 fans for CDB. Their first performance at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo this February drew an impressive 10,800 fans into the AT&T Center. SOLD OUT shows in 2010 include Fort Worth's legendary Billy Bob's Texas with 5500 fans and 12000 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Casey Donahew Band owes their quickly expanding fan base to playing 200 dates a year playing State Fairs, Rodeos, Dance Halls, Festivals, headlining and opening for stellar acts like the Randy Roger's Band and Kevin Fowler in front of huge crowds.

The "Donahew-it" work ethic icludes self-releaseing four CD's in the past five years on their Almost Country Label. Texas Music Magazine's recent review calls Moving On "a vibrant collection matching eternally restless anthems aginst engaging narratives, rattles and rolls and rubmles like a youthful Robert Earl Keen fronting Reckless Kelly. Lone star idealism links kindred spirits." The CD charted on Billboard Top 200 at #126, #3 Heatseeker and #28 on the Country Charts (September 09) selling 14,000 copies in 5 months with single "Ramblin Kind" topping the Texas Music chart at #1.

Check Out My Interview With Blake Shelton Over At The 9513

"This has been an amazing year for me," he says. "If you would have told me when I started out that I would have two major awards, a CD in the upper reaches of the charts, a sold-out show at the Ryman Auditorium and a career that's generally on fire, I would have thought you were pulling my leg."

He's got all that and more. The SIX PAKs, of course, are Blake's two most recent CD's, innovative ways to get music into the hands of his fans more often. The first, Hillbilly Bone, included a title track that sped to the coveted #1 spot on the singles charts and won Blake two major awards--Vocal Event of the Year from the Academy of Country Music and Collaborative Video of the Year (with his partner in crime Trace Adkins) from CMT. The SIX PAK CD debuted at #3 on Billboard's all-genre Top 200 chart and #2 on the Top Country Albums Chart, and kicked his already humming career into overdrive.

I had an opportunity to talk with Blake over at the granddaddy of country music blogs, The 9513. Catch a snippet of it below and then read the whole thing HERE.

"This is my seventh album. As people learn about me and my personality–especially lately through Twitter and more television–I think it’s the type of music that they’d expect to hear from a guy with a personality like mine. That comes from me becoming more confident in who I am and that I’m an absolute dipshit half the time. (Laughter) And I’m okay with that. Once you learn those things and embrace them about yourself, you become that guy when you record. I think that’s why 11 years into this thing, I’m finally connecting with my audience more than ever."

Mel Tillis Prepares Comedy Album For Release On September 21

When thinking of Mel Tillis, several descriptions come to mind: ‘country music legend,’‘respected songwriter,’ ‘accomplished actor,’ and ‘world-class ST-T-T-TUTTERER.’ But one of his lesser known talents is about to be revealed to the world: Mel Tillis is riotously funny! On September 21, 2010 Tillis releases his debut comedy album, YOU AIN’T GONNA BELIEVE THIS..., on Show Dog-Universal Music.

“As one who stutters, humor has very much been a part of my whole life” says Tillis. “As a matter of fact, it’s been my crutch. The stories that I tell on and offstage are 95% true. If they need a little help, I help ‘em out now and again!”
Tillis’ live shows are known for the hilarious gut-busting humor he brings with him onstage. Show Dog-Universal Music has capitalized on just that, capturing some of the legend’s very best live comedic action resulting in a Tillis treasure trove of laughs.

Earlier in his career, Tillis won Nashville’s coveted Comedian of the Year award on six occasions. Tillis also took his comedic side to the silver screen, starring in several major motion picture films including Smokey & the Bandit II, Cannonball Run, Cannonball Run II and most recently, Toby Keith’s Beer for my Horses. Popular television shows like the Dukes of Hazzard and Love Boat were also avenues for Tillis to show off his funny side.

One could say that country music legend Mel Tillis has just about done it all during his 50+ years in the entertainment business. Throughout his monstrous career, Tillis has recorded more than 60 albums, has had 35 Top Ten singles, was named the Country Music Association’s coveted Entertainer of the Year, is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and holds country music’s highest honor as a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. He has written over 1,000 songs, 600 of which have been recorded by major artists including Kenny Rogers (“Ruby, Don’t You Take Your Love To Town”), George Strait (“Thoughts of a Fool”), and Ricky Skaggs (“Honey, Open That Door”). Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) named Tillis Songwriter of the Decade for two decades.

Country Music Hall Of Fame Announces Plans To Double In Size

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is expected to double in size to coincide with the construction of a downtown Omni Hotel, according to a press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Tuesday (Aug. 24). The Omni property will anchor Nashville's new convention center, which is currently under construction. According to the Nashville Business Journal, museum chairman Steve Turner said a fundraising drive will begin when design plans have been finalized. At an estimated cost of $250 million, the Omni hotel's architecture will complement the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, although design plans for the hotel have not yet been unveiled. Groundbreaking for the hotel is expected next year, with completion by 2013. However, a completion date for the museum's expansion, which will grow to the south between Fourth and Fifth Avenues, is undetermined.

Neil Young Prepares Le Noise For Late September Release

A year and a half after the release of his last studio album, Fork in the Road, the nearly 65-year-old Can-rock icon is coming out with a new solo effort: according to Warner Music Canada, it’s called Le Noise and is due in late September. The record is being produced by Daniel Lanois, a Canadian producer-singer-songwriter known for working with the likes of Bob Dylan and U2. The pair have been getting along famously.

Lanois told the CBC last month, “There’s an automatic communication system that exists between two Canadian dogs.” Not even a nasty motorcycle accident could keep Lanois away from the project, which he calls “some of [Young’s] best work in some time. We’ve really hit the motherlode.”

Grand Ole Opry Announces September 28 Return To The Grand Ole Opry House

Photo Taken This Week At The Grand Ole Opry House
Country music’s most famous radio show is returning to the house that country music built.

Grand Ole Opry officials today announced that the show, displaced from its permanent home due to May’s historic Nashville flood, will return to the Grand Ole Opry House with a star-packed show Tuesday, September 28. Among the artists scheduled for the show are Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels Band, Diamond Rio, Jimmy Dickens, Del McCoury Band, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Mel Tillis, and Josh Turner. The show will air live on GAC: Great American Country. Special events and artist appearances will follow throughout October in celebration of both the show’s return and its 85th Birthday.

The announcement came just before the Opry House’s signature element, a six-foot circle of oak wood taken from the historic Ryman Auditorium when the show moved to the Grand Ole Opry House in 1974, was returned this morning to its home center stage at the Opry House. The circle, along with the full Opry stage, had been covered by 46 inches of water during May’s flood. Rescued immediately after waters receded from the Opry House, the circle has been painstakingly refurbished. The country music treasure was placed in its rightful spot with assistance from Dickens and Paisley. The two Opry members then took to the circle behind an Opry microphone stand for an acoustic performance of the country classic “Will the Circle be Unbroken.”

Marty Stuart Releases Ghost Train Today

GRAMMY-winner and American music icon Marty Stuart has released a traditional country album called Ghost Train (The Studio B Sessions) today. (August 24, 2010) With his 14th studio album, Stuart steadily continues to lead the charge in preserving the roots, culture and history of traditional country music.

“What inspires me now, is traditional country music,” says Stuart. “It’s the music I most cherish, the culture in which I was raised. It’s the bedrock upon which the empire of country music is built, the empowering force that provides this genre with lasting credibility. It’s beyond trends and it’s timeless. With all that being said, I found traditional country music to be on the verge of extinction. It’s too precious to let slip away. I wanted to attempt to write a new chapter.”

Huey Lewis And The News Finalize Release Details For November Release, Soulsville

Grammy-winners Huey Lewis and The News have confirmed the November 2 release of 'Soulsville,' their first album in nine years, to be released on W.O.W. Records. Recorded at historic Ardent Studios in Memphis, the album features 14 classic songs from the vault of Stax Records, including "Respect Yourself" and "Got To Get You Off My Mind". Considered to be the preeminent soul music label in America, Stax was home to artists like Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and The MG's, and Isaac Hayes, and produced an astounding number of hit records throughout the 1960's and 70's. Ably paying tribute to the rich Stax legacy, Huey Lewis and The News, joined by their long time horn section, capture the energy and excitement of this important era.

'Soulsville' re-unites Huey Lewis and the News with co-producer Jim Gaines ('Sports,' 'Fore!') who worked at the Stax studios as a young man and was involved in many of the label's original recordings.

"We're especially proud of the collection." says Lewis, who has been previewing material from the album while on a critically acclaimed summer tour. "There should be a number of surprises for everyone."

Dolly Parton To Start Filming New Movie Co-Starring Queen Latifah

Todd Graff's upcoming choir drama motion picture Joyful Noise has landed two musical luminaries in Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton. This casting news comes from Variety, who also note that the film will be distributed through Warner Bros.' Alcon Entertainment.

Graff, who wrote and directed last year's well-received Bandslam, has written his own screenplay for Joyful Noise, a story that centers on two very busy and strong-willed women forced to save a small town gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut it down. Queen Latifah is set to play the new head of the choir, a working mom forced into the position after the choir director suffers an untimely death. Dolly Parton will play Queen's nemesis of sorts, starring as the original choir director's widow; a woman who thought she was next in line for the job but is pushed aside. Working together, they grow to understand what the choir means to the community and help raise the money needed to keep it flourishing.

Production on Joyful Noise is slated to begin in January
