British Pop Star Nadine Coyle Angling For A Country Album

British pop star Nadine Coyle is rumored to be hankering for a country album, claims a report.

After the disappointing sales of her recent debut solo record Insatiable, insiders suggest the Girls Aloud star may make country music for the follow-up, to help her crack America.

Girls Aloud are a British girl group that were created through the ITV1 talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. The group consists of Nadine Coyle, Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh. Following the success of their debut single "Sound of the Underground", which spent four weeks at number one, the group has achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles (including four number ones) and two number one albums in the United Kingdom.

"Nadine's refusing to give up on her dream," a source claims to Now magazine this week."She reckons she'll have more chance in the States, where talent and singing ability count. Her life's in America now and she'd happily never return to the UK after such a hostile reception."

Kenny Rogers Finishing New Inspirational Album & Book For The Love of God

Kenny Rogers is putting the finishing touches on an inspirational album that will be released in the first half of next year and that will be accompanied by a book of photos. The track list on the album will be a mix of classics in addition to new material.

"It's not gospel, it's more inspirational. It's all songs about people's personal relationship with God and what He means to them. It's been very inspiring for me to do it. We found some great old songs that my mom and dad used to listen to, like 'In the Sweet By and By,' and 'Amazing Grace,' and we found some new songs that no one's ever heard before that I think are incredibly touching."
Rogers is also an accomplished photographer and accompanying the new album will be a collection of photographs of churches he has photographed through the years.
"The whole concept is called 'For the Love of God,' so the calendar is things people will do for the love of God. Some of the churches are from Prague or Czechoslovakia, and they're just unbelievably dynamic. Then some are little churches that sit out in the field. We travel by bus most of the time, unless it's cross-country, and we pull a jeep with us. We jump in the jeep in the morning and drive around and look for things to shoot. The interesting thing is, we've realized that even if we don't find pictures, we get to see parts of the world we'd never see otherwise."

An Interview With Steve Wariner Over At The 9513

Steve Wariner was playing in Dottie West's touring band at age 17. He later worked with Chet Atkins, who signed him to RCA in 1977. However, it wasn't until 1981 that he cracked the Top 10. A year later, he topped the chart with "All Roads Lead to You." Two more Top 5 hits followed before he moved to MCA Nashville in 1984. Emerging as a strong songwriter, Wariner's smooth vocals and commercial sound led some to criticize his music as uninspired. But that didn't prevent 18 singles from MCA reaching the Top 10, with eight of them peaking at No. 1.

At a time when country music was selling its best numbers in quite a while, Wariner left the star-studded MCA Nashville roster for the start-up label Arista Records in 1991. Within a few years, though, Wariner again found himself on a label among the genre's biggest stars -- Brooks & Dunn, Diamond Rio, Alan Jackson and Pam Tillis.

In a career lull, Wariner joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1996. A year later, he joined Anita Cochran on her ballad "What If I Said." Although Cochran was unproven and Wariner was considered out of vogue as a performer, the duet surprised the industry by eventually reaching No. 1 in 1998. Plus, two songs that Wariner had co-written -- "Longneck Bottle" by Garth Brooks and "Nothin' but the Taillights" by Clint Black -- also reached No. 1 that same year.

With his career momentum regained, Wariner signed to Capitol Records and offered "Holes in the Floor of Heaven," which won the CMA single and song of the year in 1998. A collaboration with Asleep at the Wheel brought Wariner his second Grammy in 1999. After three additional Top 10 hits for Capitol, Wariner launched his own imprint, Selectone Records.

I had an interview to talk with Wariner about a new holiday album and his upcoming 2011 project called Guitar Laboratory. Check out a snippet of an interview I did with the guitar legend below and then click HERE to read the interview in its entirety.
"I guess it started with the influence of James Burton and Buck Owens and those West Coast guys that always played telecasters. I just always loved that twangy sound and the bending of the strings. I’ve always gravitated to the Telecaster for some reason. When I was a kid, I learned to play on a Fender Jazzmaster. My dad had a Jazzmaster so I learned to play on that. I’d pretend it was a Telecaster. In my mind, it was a Telecaster at least. But I’d try and play high end and high tone out of it as I could and pretend it was. But then when I was in high school, I was able to buy my own guitar and it was a Telecaster of course. I don’t know. I loved Gretsch guitars. That was as I got older, probably because of Chet Atkins and George Harrison. George played that because of Chet, of course. But I could never afford a Gretsch at our local music store. They were pretty expensive back in the day. I ended up holding onto my Telecaster and always played that. So now I’ve got some vintage Gretsch guitars that I like to play and it was fun to bring out some of my favorite guitars to play on this album."

That Nashville SoundBites- Mountain Heart- That Just Happened

That Nashville Sound receives many different CD releases throughout the year from indie, bluegrass and artists just off the mainstream radar- or smaller projects like EPs- that we’re doing short mini CD reviews on. We call them That Nashville SoundBITES- it’s a feature that will allow us to give some props to some albums and artists that deserve a spotlight on their work.

Release Date: October 2010

Music Label: Self-Released

The Skinny: Mountain Heart has undisputed music chops. The group's entertainment, instrumental, and vocal prowess are widely acclaimed in bluegrass and other acoustic music circles- they've been awarded the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year award in 1999 and have been nominated for many other IBMA awards including "Entertainer of the Year" (2003, 2004, 2005), "Vocal Group of the Year" (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), and "Instrumental Group of the Year" (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006). The album opens up with “It Just Happened”, as much bluegrass as it is rock and roll with its slide guitar/organ playing/mandolin picking. Next up is “Little Sadie”, an old bluegrass classic done in a rollicking style. The star of the album is “Even if it Breaks My Heart”, a soulful ballad sung nicely by lead singer Josh Shilling- a tale of of "if you love someone you have to let them go." The final track is a tight rendition of the Allman Brothers’ classic “Whipping Post”. With the little interlude of the piano solo in the Joe Cocker version of “The Letter”, there’s no doubt about it, these guys like to rock their bluegrass.

Sounds Like: If the Steeldrivers added an electric guitar and keyboards

Standout Tracks: "Even If It Breaks My Heart", "Little Sadie"

The Verdict: Three And A Half Stars Out Of Five

Shawn Mullins' New Song "Ghost of Johnny Cash" Celebrates The Man In Black

Folk and alternative rock artist Shawn Mullins has just released his latest album, Light You Up. Filled with songs that tell a story and let listeners into Mullins' innermost thoughts, Light You Up allows listeners use their imaginations in order to conjure up the images Mullins tries to project through song.

The fifth track on Light You Up is an ode to the great Johnny Cash, entitled “The Ghost of Johnny Cash.” Though Mullins never met the man who is called one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Mullins collaborated with actor Kris Kristofferson, a long-time friend of Cash’s, on the track. Mullins’s dusky voice sounds more like he’s talking rather than singing, as he lets listeners into a private and somewhat ominous moment with great lyrics.
“Woke up in a cold sweat from a dream at 3 a.m. I was driftin’ on a sea of shadows...I saw a man dressed all in black reach out and take the helm. And he charted us a course out into the spirit realm.”
The additional acoustic guitar work and background vocals from Chuck Cannon only add to the track’s mysterious tone.
