Huey Lewis & The News Prep Spring Release Of First Album of All-New Material Since 2001

Grammy award-winning, chart-topping rock and rollers Huey Lewis and the News have signed a new recording agreement with BMG to release their forthcoming 10th studio album in spring 2019. Following their last album release in 2010, a Stax/Volt tribute album, the upcoming studio album is the bands eagerly awaited first set of all new original music in 18 years.

Entering their 39th year together, Huey Lewis and the News’ contagious brand of music has outlasted countless trends and is as fresh today as ever. They incorporate a variety of musical influences including R&B and soul to create their own unique sound. Formed from two rival Bay Area bands in 1979, they continue to thrill audiences worldwide, selling over 20 million albums in the process, earning them the right to mark their place on the pop history map.

The new album announcement casts some hope that the hearing challenges that Lewis was facing this past year might be behind him. Less than a year ago, Lewis was forced to cancel a 40-date tour after experiencing sudden hearing loss. “I haven’t come to grips with the fact that I may never sing again,” Lewis told the Today Show in May. “I’m still hoping I’m gonna get better. They say a positive attitude is important.” Doctors believe that he is suffering from Meniere’s, which causes severe disorientation, feelings of intense vertigo and hearing loss. Lewis first experienced the symptoms at a show in Dallas last March. “As I walked to the stage, it sounded like there was a jet engine going on,” he said. “I knew something was wrong. I couldn’t find pitch. Distorted. Nightmare. It’s cacophony.”

Lewis said, "We’re very excited about our new album, and honestly feel that it’s among our best work – we cannot wait to get it out to fans! We’re equally excited to be with BMG, whose reputation as a ‘music-first’ label precedes them admirably."

John Loeffler, EVP, Marketing & Repertoire, New York, said, “In the time we’ve grown closer with Huey and the band it became clear that this is a perfect match. We’re thrilled to welcome Huey Lewis and the News and proud to call BMG their new label home. We look forward giving the band more opportunities to take advantage of all we have to offer and working alongside them to develop some new creative endeavors.”

Huey Lewis and the News are Huey Lewis (vocals and harmonica), Johnny Colla (saxophone, guitar and vocals), Bill Gibson (drums, percussion and vocals), Sean Hopper (keyboards and vocals), Stef Burns (guitars and vocals) and John Pierce (bass). The live show features their long-time horn section of San Francisco bay area luminaries including Rob Sudduth (tenor saxophone), Marvin McFadden (trumpet), and Johnnie Bamont (baritone saxophone).

Tribute Album To Honor Roger Miller Recruits Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson, Dozens More

Artist: Multiple
Album: King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller
Label: BMG
Release date: August 31

King of the Road: A Tribute to Roger Miller, out Aug. 31 via BMG, pays long overdue respects to one of American music's premier entertainers and songwriters. The two-disc collection contains new renditions of Miller's songs by Ringo Starr, Dolly Parton, Eric Church, Loretta Lynn, John Goodman and more than two dozen others, including Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Merle Haggard on one track. Produced by Miller's son, Dean Miller, and Colby Barnum Wright, 'King of the Road' offers a fresh look at the work of a creative giant who has been gone 26 years but whose genius continues to shape contemporary music in ways both overt and subtle.

Before Miller's premature death of cancer at age 56, the Country Music Hall of Famer had 31 Top 40 Billboard country hits (10 of which crossed over to the pop chart), including his signature songs "Dang Me" and "King of the Road." He held the record for most GRAMMY wins in a single night until Michael Jackson and 'Thriller' broke it in 1984. Miller wrote songs and voiced a character for Walt Disney's 1973 Robin Hood film. He also wrote the music and lyrics for the Tony-winning Big River, helping launch the career of actor John Goodman, who reprises the musical's "Guv'ment" on 'King of the Road.' As Dean Miller writes in liner notes accompanying 'King of the Road,' "Roger Miller was too gigantic to be contained by genres and definitions."

'King of the Road' includes versions of Miller's biggest '60s hits, like "Chug-A-Lug" (Asleep at the Wheel ft. Huey Lewis) and "England Swings" (Lyle Lovett), and lesser-known treasures from a catalog full of gems. As with Miller's own output, the album contains plenty of unexpected turns -- country superstar Eric Church's playful take on Robin Hood's "Oo De Lally," for instance, or Starr's selection of "Hey, Would You Hold It Down?," a song from Miller's long-out-of-print 1979 'Making a Name for Myself' album. By any standard of measurement, Miller was "one of the greatest songwriters that ever lived" -- even if he did say so himself. And he did, in the first of a handful of the album's live-performance interstitials that capture the spontaneous wit of a mind that operated at a breakneck pace.

The scope of material and performances on 'King of the Road' both capture Miller's personality and convey an astonishing legacy that's still felt today. "Roger Miller didn't have to say much," Dean writes in the liners. "You were simply drawn to him. He had a magnetic smile, and electric wit and a passion for life and music that transcended generations."

Marc Broussard Combines Charity & Music Passions With Upcoming Save Our Soul II Album

Artist: Marc Broussard
Album: Save Our Soul II: Sings the Songs of the 50's and 60's
Label: G-Man Records
Release date: Sept. 30, 2016

Singer Marc Broussard of Carencro, LA has combined his love of his community and his love of the music that influenced his father and he growing up. His upcoming album titled Save Our Soul II: Marc Broussard Sings the Songs of the 50's and 60's will come out on September 30 and half of the proceeds of the album will go back to charity.

"Those moments have led me to believe I am doing what I'm supposed to be doing in life," Broussard said. "I'm going to continue to pursue these promptings, wherever they may come from. I'm going to continue to take my cues from my soul, from my gut. They've led me this far and have given me strong indications that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I feel very, very excited about what the future holds."

That future includes extensive work with his Save Our Soul Foundation, Broussard's own nonprofit organization. The SOS Foundation will concentrate on local homelessness and work with an Oschner Hospital program that offers intense training to international pediatric cardiologists and heart surgeons who return to their home country to save children.

SOS, which will have a local board of directors that includes City Parish councilman Kenneth Boudreaux, will raise money through donations, concerts, VIP events and record sales.

"I have this fan base, every time I ask them to buy records, they buy records," said Broussard. "Every time I ask them to buy tickets, they buy tickets.

"Now if I tell them 100 percent of the proceeds are going to help homeless folks here locally, as well as help City of Refuge and groups like them expand their business model and achieve their goals, my fans are going to pick those records up, every time they see them. They're going to give them out as Christmas presents, birthday presents and office favors. I fully believe that."

SOS was inspired by City of Refuge, an Atlanta-based nonprofit that hired Broussard two years ago to perform for their Christmas fundraiser. Located in an area called The Bluff, which has one of the highest crime rates and homeless populations in Georgia, the organization helps residents with food, clothing, shelter, job training and placement, housing, healthcare and education.

The City operates 180 Kitchen, which feeds the hungry and fuels a Culinary Arts School that trains students in a culinary career. A catering program provides income for the students and covers the kitchen's expenses.

Huey Lewis And The News Finalize Release Details For November Release, Soulsville

Grammy-winners Huey Lewis and The News have confirmed the November 2 release of 'Soulsville,' their first album in nine years, to be released on W.O.W. Records. Recorded at historic Ardent Studios in Memphis, the album features 14 classic songs from the vault of Stax Records, including "Respect Yourself" and "Got To Get You Off My Mind". Considered to be the preeminent soul music label in America, Stax was home to artists like Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and The MG's, and Isaac Hayes, and produced an astounding number of hit records throughout the 1960's and 70's. Ably paying tribute to the rich Stax legacy, Huey Lewis and The News, joined by their long time horn section, capture the energy and excitement of this important era.

'Soulsville' re-unites Huey Lewis and the News with co-producer Jim Gaines ('Sports,' 'Fore!') who worked at the Stax studios as a young man and was involved in many of the label's original recordings.

"We're especially proud of the collection." says Lewis, who has been previewing material from the album while on a critically acclaimed summer tour. "There should be a number of surprises for everyone."
