Album: Live at Analog
Label: Picnic Hill Records
Release date: May 17, 2019

Halfway to Hazard, a duo composed of singer-songwriters David Tolliver and Chad Warrix, will be releasing a new live album next month titled Live at Analog. Though Tolliver and Warrix grew up in different towns in southeastern Kentucky, their band's origins are in Hazard, Kentucky, which was halfway between their hometowns.

Their debut single, "Daisy", was a Top 40 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in 2007.  In addition, they toured as Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's opening act on their Soul2Soul 2007 Tour. McGraw helped to produce the album. Their debut album, Come on Time, was released on October 19, 2009 and their most recent album, REDemtion was released in 2017.

Tolliver now writes full-time for Tim McGraw's publishing company, StyleSonic. He and Warrix had one song, "Die by My Own Hand," on McGraw's Emotional Traffic album and Tolliver has the song "Let Me Love It Out of You" on McGraw's Two Lanes of Freedom album. Brantley Gilbert and Jerrod Niemann have also recorded Tolliver's songs.

“It was great to be back in Nashville playing live… it’s been too long!” states Tolliver. “Having some of our best friends in the business join together onstage makes it that much sweeter. We’re looking forward to the upcoming shows. Analog is a fantastic venue and adds to the audience experience.”

That Nashville Sound Saturday Newsbytes: New Trisha Album, New Music Videos & A PGA Tour Caddie Makes Album

We've got a handful of news items to share this Saturday morning including some new music videos, a couple of upcoming album announcements and a link to a brand new album from a prominent PGA Tour caddie.

- Trisha Yearwood will release an album of Frank Sinatra covers through William Sonoma on December 20th- the project will get a more universal launch in February of 2018. “I’ve been wanting to make this record for 20 years!” Yearwood, 54, tells PEOPLE. “I have always loved standards, and nobody sings them better than Sinatra. I’m honored to get the chance to pay tribute to him and the songwriters in these timeless classics.”

- Darryl Worley has a new yet-to-be-titled album coming out in February of 2019. He is now on Acceleration Music Group, a new secondary radio label project started this month. Other artists on Acceleration include Ty Herndon and Michelle Wright.

- Ashley McBryde has a new acoustic music video for her song "Home Sweet Highway."

- Rodney Atkins has a new music video for "Caught Up In The Country."

- Jerrod Niemann has a new music video for "Old Glory."

- Longtime PGA Tour caddie and Sacramento-native John Wood has released a new album entitled Record 66. Having been on the bag for golf stars like Kevin Sutherland, Hunter Mahan and Matt Kuchar, Wood is recognized as one of the finest caddies out on tour- and time between tournaments has had him perfecting his musical craft as well. Says Wood, "Been writing songs for a while now and finally sat down and got to work and made halfway decent recordings of them, so it's almost kinda sorta a whole album. You can listen to it on soundcloud. If you like overly wordy, sad, and slightly off key singing, then this Is your jam. Best I can say is it's not horrible for a caddie."  You can listen to the project HERE.

Drew Kennedy Launches Kickstarter Initiative For At Home In The Big Lonesome

Artist: Drew Kennedy
Album: At Home In The Big Lonesome
Label: Atlas Aurora
Release date: Fall 2016

It's not often that this site implores its readers to help fund a music project, but this new one from Drew Kennedy is an exception.  Over the past decade, Kennedy has left the waiting to other people. The Texan has devoted his life to writing and performing his songs his way for anyone who cares. With a catalog seven-albums deep, one novel penned, a music festival created, and an ever-growing group of admirers comprising elite peers and everyday listeners, Kennedy has done more than build a strong career in music. He has reimagined what it means to be a contemporary songwriter, both artistically and entrepreneurially.

On this new project, his almost never-ending life on the highway is the inspiration for the music that has been written. He shares, "It's known by a few different names-- Far West Texas, the Trans-Pecos, Big Bend Country-- but I've come to call it something else in my mind. It's a name I read in a masterfully written article about the passing of a beloved figure from that part of the world. I'm not sure if the author was using the term to describe the place, or if she was perhaps describing the feeling that defined the woman she was writing about. There are more possibilities, too. I've thought about it for hours upon hours, and I can't decide which one it is."
"Her home was the big lonesome. Alone with her burro, she roamed the bar ditches from Terlingua to Marfa and from Marathon to Sierra Blanca." -- Sterry Butcher, "The Mystery Everyone Loved", The Texas Observer (3/23/07)
He goes on to punctuate the quote, "The Big Lonesome."
Kennedy's brought in a big gun to produce the new project in the form of one Dave Brainard. "Dave and I talked about music and songs and the road and work ethic and the weather and studios and highways and Nebraska over a couple of sandwiches. I already knew about his resume-- a GRAMMY nod for producing Brandy Clark's phenomenal 12 Stories album, a record that shot through the music community like a sonic and lyrical lightning bolt, among the other amazing records he's produced (for Jamey Johnson and Jerrod Niemann to name a few)-- so this wasn't really a "what have you been up to?" kind of meeting. It was an "ok, who are you as a guy?" kind of meeting. Turns out, even if he didn't make incredible records for incredible artists, I'd still want to hang out and talk philosophy and highways and music with the guy every chance I could."

And that is where fans of meaningful lyrics and tangible musical depth come in. With a new Kickstarter effort that you can contribute to HERE, you can be part of something that promises to be special and unique.

“You can’t wait for someone to give you the green light,” says Kennedy. “You have to take ownership over what you’re doing and make it happen for yourself. If you wait for someone, you’re going to be waiting for a long time. Maybe forever. I just want to write the best songs that I possibly can. I don’t want to ever stop approaching this as a student of popular song or the craft of writing.”

The Henningsens To Release Our Family Christmas On 11/17

The Henningsens announced that they will release their first holiday album, Our Family Christmas, on Nov. 17. Additionally, the 10-track album includes two Henningsen originals, “Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Baby Jesus” and “Christmas Kissin’,” which features guest vocals by Jerrod Niemann.

“We really wanted to make it very traditional in the songs and the melodies, but a lot of our arrangements are new, modern, cool arrangements,” said Brian Henningsen.

Bruce Springsteen and the Doobie Brothers Both Prep New Projects

Two legends of the rock world, Bruce Springsteen and the Doobie Brothers, are both prepping new projects this spring. Springsteen will be releasing a new 4-song 12" vinyl EP in conjunction with Record Store Day and the Doobie Brothers are reuniting with Michael McDonald and collaborating with a dozen of country's brightest stars for an yet-to-be-named country music project.

Bruce Springsteen will release four unreleased songs on an EP entitled American Beauty on April 19th. Three of the tracks - "American Beauty," "Mary Mary" and "Hey Blue Eyes" - were recorded during the High Hopes sessions (a full album released in January of this year), but ultimately discarded. The origin of the other song, "Hurry Up Sundown," is unknown.
Brad Paisley, Love & Theft, Chris Young, Zac Brown Band, Jerrod Niemann, Toby Keith and Sara Evans are among the country acts teaming with the legendary Doobie Brothers to record a new album covering the Grammy winning band's classic hits.

Longtime Doobie band-member Tom Johnston says this about a release date, "There are a couple of nuts and bolts that still need to be tightened, but it's pretty close."  On going country, he says, "The Doobies cover a wide swath musically. We're an American band. We cover everything from blues and R&B to bluegrass, and even a little bit country. At the same time we do rock and roll and these days it seems country has adopted a good bit of rock and roll to go along with the country style of singing and the banjo and pedal steel. It all works together and I think it's fascinating."

Love and Theft's Stephen Barker Liles says, "This is going to be an incredible album and we couldn't be more honored to be a part of a project with one our favorite iconic bands and musical influences."

After nearly 30 years away from the band, former lead singer Michael McDonald will also be reuniting with the band for this special project.

Jerrod Niemann Preps High Noon For 3/25 Delivery

Jerrod Niemann's big news about a brand new High Noon album was announced via Sony Music Nashville's Twitter account in addition to an album-specific website called www.journeytohighnoon.com. The album will be released on March 25.

The country singer’s third album and follow-up to 2012′s Free the Music, High Noon was produced by Jimmie Lee Sloas and Niemann himself. Lead single “Drink to That All Night” was released last fall, and since then the song has reached the Top 20 on the Mediabase and Billboard charts.
On his website, Niemann explained how he decided on the album title and his thoughts on his adversaries:
“High Noon is a term that’s been in my mind since I was a kid. Growin’ up in Southwest Kansas, I actually lived in Dodge City, Kansas, where the old gunfighting days have such a historical value,” he wrote. “I mean, Wyatt Earp is the main street, and high noon, if you think of it, it’s always meeting your adversary at noon, and goin’ out there, walkin’ a few steps, and turn around and face what you’re most afraid of, right then and there. So for me, every time any of us make a journey in our life for whatever we’re tryin’ to do–in this case makin’ music–I just think, ‘okay, my adversaries are party poopers, and I’m about to face that so that all of us can have a great time,’ hopefully, listening to this record.”

Jenna and Patrick’s Hope Foundation
This foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization is in existence to help us find a cure for cystinosis. The foundation provides fundraising and marketing resources to strengthen nonprofit organizations and benefit local children and youth programs. Cystinosis is a rare metabolic disease that affects approximately 500 people in the United States (mostly children),and about 2,000 people worldwide. This disease causes the amino acid “cystine” to accumulate in the cells of the body. Over time, the cystine damages various organs including the kidneys, liver, muscles, white blood cells, eyes, and central nervous system. Other complications include muscle wasting, growth loss, difficulty swallowing, and developmental delays.

The Players:

Montgomery Gentry – This duo is headlining Tuesday night’s Golf and Guitar’s KNCI Music Festival. This duo has had a notable career, complete with fourteen Top 10 singles, including five No. 1s, “Something To Be Proud Of,” “If You Ever Stop Loving Me,” Lucky Man,” “Back When I Knew It All” and “Roll With Me”. Their newest collection, Rebels on the Run promises to bring “Montgomery Gentry fans back to the beginning, but with a fresh attitude.”

Joe Nichols – Four Grammy nominations, a CMA Album of the Year nomination and a stream of chart topping hits, including “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off“, “Gimmie That Girl” and “Brokenheartsville” will make Joe a welcome addition to the 2013 Golf and Guitars KNCI Music Festival!

Jack Ingram – Jack has been a longtime host of Golf and Guitars and we are thrilled he is back for another year! In 2008, Jack Ingram won the 2008 Academy of Country Music award for “Best New Male Vocalist” and we can look forward to hearing new music from his latest album Big Dreams and High Hopes.

Joey + Rory – Joey and Rory first made a splash when they signed up for CMT’s 2008 Can You Duet and placed third in the competition. Many may know them best from their hit single “Cheater Cheater” but they are finding new fans each week on their new weekly variety show, The Joey+Rory Show on RFD-TV which is filmed entirely on their quaint farm and family-owned cafe Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse.

Thomas Rhett – His first single, “Something To Do With My Hands” will quickly reveal why every record company that Thomas auditioned for wanted to sign him. There is an urban streak and a mixture of country and rock in his music- a combination that is definitely driving the direction of country music today.

Chris Cagle – Chris has two gold albums, two No. 1 albums and 12 charted songs, including “I Breathe In, I Breathe Out“. In 2012, Chris released his latest album, Back in the Saddle.

Joanna Smith – Joanna is comfortable performing on stage. That has always been her dream! You can look forward to hearing her perform her sultry ballad,”We Can’t Be Friends” on our stage Monday night!Greg Bates – A relative newcomer to Nashville, Greg made his Grand Ole Opry debut in April 2012. His first single, “Did It for the Girl” was released in 2012 and the second single, “Fill in the Blank” is brand new to country radio!

Brett Eldredge – Brett is another favorite and repeat performer at Golf and Guitars. His 2010 debut, “Raymond” was inspired by Brett’s own grandmother and I still remember him performing it in concert at our show. His current single “Don’t Ya” shows off Brett’s incredibly sexy baritone – he’ll be a fun one to watch!

Jerrod Niemann – You know Jerrod from his No. 1 hit “Lover, Lover” and his Top 5 single, “What Do You Want“. At Golf and Guitars, you can also look forward to hearing new music from his latest album, Free The Music, which defines how Jerrod feels about country today.

Maggie Rose – Maggie may be a new introduction to our line-up, but I know we’ll remember her name after we hear her sing! Her album, Cut to Impress, will be released on March 26th and the title of the album comes from a lyric in the second verse of her song, “Mostly Bad.”

Jason Michael Carroll – Jason has been a fabulous supporter of Golf and Guitars in the past and we are thrilled to welcome him back again in 2013! His unmistakable deep voice and undeniable talents can be found on his hits “I Can Sleep When I’m Dead“, “Livin’ Our Love Song” and “Alyssa Lies“.

Kristen Kelly – Kristen’s first single “Ex-Old Man” was released in 2012 and her new single, “He Loves to Make Me Cry” just came out in February. Kristen’s biggest influence is Merle Haggard. We look forward to welcoming her to Sacramento in May!

Dustin Lynch – If you were at last year’s Golf and Guitars, then you remember “Cowboys and Angels” being performed and the performance was outstanding! This year, let’s rock out to his newest single, “She Cranks My Tractor“.

Chuck Wicks – I think Chuck could run Golf and Guitars for us – he has been a staunch supporter of our event for many years and he always proves to be a crowd favorite among the ladies. He has a fabulous sense of humor and I really think we should give him a Flip camera and turn him loose in the crowd – I’m sure he’d capture some great interviews for us again! Perhaps best known for his hit songs, “Stealing Cinderella” and “All I Ever Wanted“, Chuck has announced that he will be releasing a new EP Rough on April 2nd.

Canaan Smith – If you were a Golf and Guitars VIP ticket holder in 2012, then Canaan’s name might sound familiar because he performed during our Pairings Party last year. Otherwise, you may have caught him on tour with Love and Theft. Canaan’s lastest single, “We Got Us” was released last year and he was a contestant during the 15th season of The Amazing Race. Cool trivia fact!

Love & Theft – Love and Theft has had a number of hit singles, including “Runaway”, “Dancing in Circles” and the No. 1 hit “Angel Eyes”. This year, they have also been nominated for the ACM vocal Duo of the Year – let’s cheer them on!

BONUS! BONUS!

And our pre-show entertainer on day one, Heidi Feek, has songwriting and performing royalty in her blood. She is the daughter of Rory Feek and Joey Martin of Joey + Rory and her beautiful voice and fantastic songwriting skills will be on display starting at 5 PM on 5/20.

Our pre-show entertainers on day two, Summerlin Road, will be another great highlight of the night. Johnny Bulford is the pen behind Lee Brice’s “A Woman Like You” and his duo partner Chris Roberts was formerly with One Flew South. Together, they make up the duo Summerlin Road with Warner-Chappel Publishing.

Jerrod Niemann Set To "Free The Music" In October

For Jerrod Niemann, ten is a magic number. He began performing at the young age of ten, was nominated as the ACM New Artist Of The Year after ten years of songwriting in the music business, and Monday night, signed autographs for a full ten hours after his Fan Club Party at the 2012 CMA Festival. Now, the platinum-selling, "Lover, Lover" hit-maker will release his sophomore major label album release, Free The Music, in the tenth month, on October 2 (on Sea Gayle Records/Arista Nashville).

"Free The Music is an album where I wanted to do just that," says Niemann. "It's a project honoring many different layers and colors that have appeared in the country genre since recorded music began."

It took Niemann a full two years to record Free The Music, but he wanted to record it from a non-traditional standpoint, regardless of time. He used brasswind horns throughout, and had his live band lay down the tracks instead of hiring studio musicians. Moreover, he used a recording technique called The Clasp during the production of each song on the record.

Once again joining forces with Dave Brainard (Judge Jerrod & The Hung Jury) who co-produced the new album with him in Nashville, Niemann's unique musical flare is evident on the entire record, especially the song "Real Women Drink Beer," (which is the theme of many of his merch items). Blending two extremes: rockabilly and reggae together, Niemann created a sound that sounds well, very much like country.

Niemann co-wrote the new album's first single, "Shinin' On Me," with friends Lee Brice, Rob Hatch and Lance Miller, and he also collaborated with guest vocalist Colbie Caillat on the soulful ballad, "All About You."

Track Listing:

1. Free the Music (Jerrod Niemann)
2. Whiskey Kind of Way (Jerrod Niemann, Randy Boudreaux)
3. Get On Up (Jerrod Niemann, J.R. McCoy, Jesse Clingan)
4. I'll Have to Kill the Pain (Jerrod Niemann, J.R. McCoy, Arlos Smith)
5. Only God Can Love You More (Jerrod Niemann, Jon Stone, Lee Brice)
6. Shinin' on Me (Jerrod Niemann, Rob Hatch, Lee Brice, Lance Miller)
7. Honky Tonk Fever (Jerrod Niemann)
8. Guessing Games (Jerrod Niemann, J.R. McCoy)
9. It Won't Matter Anymore (Jerrod Niemann, Rob Hatch, Lance Miller)
10. I'm All About You [featuring Colbie Caillat] (Jerrod Niemann, Richie Brown)
11. Real Women Drink Beer (Jerrod Niemann, Houston Phillips)

Jerrod Niemann Is Set To Free The Music In October

Jerrod Niemann will be looking to avoid the sophomore slump when he releases his second major label album release Free The Music, on October 2 on Sea Gayle/Records/Arista Nashville. With hits like "Lover, Lover" and "One More Drinking Song" establishing him as a semi-fixture on country radio, Niemann hopes that the first single, "Shinin' On Me," continues his growth as an artist.
