Mark Wills Readies New Traditional Album For 2016 Release

Mark Wills has recorded a new album and says it will be out "in a few short months."

Source

"It’s truly been one of the most wonderful, creative times in my life, and it’s also been one of the worst creative times in my life,” he says. “I went through several changes. I went through management changes. I’ve had a couple of agents that really just kind of screwed me over, and didn’t set me up for success. It’s been a learning curve for me over the last few years, and I’m happy to say that we are coming out of the learning curve, and we’re going to get back out there and make some country music.”

“It’s more of a traditional, lyric-based country music, which is the music that I make,” he explains. “We want to get back out there and create some music that is reminiscent of the ’90s country, the storytelling country music that I grew up listening to. I think that’s, in my opinion, one of the main things that’s missing from country music now. It’s OK to have a little bit of this or a little bit of that, but I think the genre is big enough to have some great lyrics [and] melodic country music out there, and [for] it to be successful as well.”

An Interview With Mark Wills Over At Engine 145

Mark Wills found both personal and professional success in Georgia's capital city. He met his wife Kelly there. The same year Mark Wills married his sweetheart Kelly was the same in year "Jacob's Ladder" jump-started his country career on Mercury Records. It was 1996. That single was followed by a string of Top 10 smashes: "Places I've Never Been" (1997), "I Do (Cherish You)" (1998), "Don't Laugh at Me" (1998), "Wish You Were Here" (1999), "She's in Love" (1999) and "Back at One" (2000).

With its message of tolerance and charity, "Don't Laugh at Me" garnered nominations from the Country Music Association for single, song and video of the year in 1998. Again, career success dovetailed with personal happiness. His daughter Mally was born, bringing a deeper joy and depth to the words of the songs he sings as an artist.

In 2001, Wills released his fourth CD, Loving Every Minute, which included a duet with labelmate Jamie O'Neal. His Greatest Hits followed in 2002, featuring the huge radio hit "19 Somethin'." He released the album  And the Crowd Goes Wild in 2003. He also just released the independent Looking For America this June and on the album, has a track that's benefiting military personnel that are returning to life stateside. I did an interview with Mark over at Engine 145 to talk about the new album and his work with our brave military teams. Read a snippet below and then check out the rest of the interview HERE.
"At the end of the day, I hope to be remembered as a singer. I don’t want to be remembered as the fanny wagon entertainer. And that’s because I think there’s a big difference between being an entertainer and a singer. I love that people are able to come to my show and hear the songs sung with the same intensity and the same passion with the same pitch live as it was on my record. That’s honestly what I strive for. I love to have fun. We have a great time in our show. And I think that’s important. But I think that’s part of what we’ve lost that makes, what I think, country music the greatest music out there. And that’s the fact that when you go see a Ronnie Milsap show, an Alabama show, one of those great artists perform live, they sound exactly like they did on the record as they did live. And that’s without auto-tune. And that’s without all the bells and whistles and tricks. That’s what I’ve always aspired to do. I’ve always aspired to be able to pull it off live and represent myself well live. And to me that brings it right down to the reality of it all, the musical talent. You have to be able to do what you do and represent yourself well live."

Country Music News Round-Up- New Albums Galore & Jack Ingram Covers Patty Griffin

"It was while making newspaper deliveries, trying to miss the bushes and hit the porch, that I first learned the importance of accuracy in journalism." ~Charles Osgood- CBS News

* Mercury Records Nashville will release singer/songwriter Randy Montana’s self-titled debut album on July 26. Montana’s album is produced by Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, Faith Hill) and includes the charted hits "Ain't Much Left Of Lovin' You," and his current single "1,000 Faces.” Also on the album is the loved track “Last Horse,” which features Emmylou Harris on harmonies.

* Jake Owen has announced that his third album Barefoot Blue Jean Night will land on August 30. Produced by Joey Moi, Rodney Clawson and Tony Brown, the album will house 11 new tracks including the lead single, “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” which has reached the top twenty on the Billboard charts.
“It is kind of ironic that my new album is being released on August 30, two days after I turn 30 and this is my third record,” Jake said. “This album is a big step for me and my career and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”
* Nashville country/inspirational trio Point of Grace is releasing a greatest hits package on July 12th entitled Turn Up The Music: The Hits Of Point Of Grace. Bandmembers Shelley Breen, Leigh Cappillino and Denise Jones are kicking it off with a new track, “Hole In The World,” which will be hitting the CCM and country radio airwaves this summer. The track was previously written and recorded by The Eagles.  For those unfamiliar with the band, here's a little teaser from their press release:
Since forming at Ouachita Baptist University, the two-time GRAMMY nominees have sold more than 6.5 million albums and earned 24 consecutive No. 1 singles (27 total including radio staples “Steady On”, “The Great Divide” and “Circle of Friends”), a feat unmatched by any artist in any genre. They’ve won 13 prestigious Dove Awards, including 2011’s “Country Album of the Year” for No Changin’ Us as well as “Christmas Album of the Year” for Home For The Holidays and are the reigning Inspirational Country Music Awards “Entertainer of the Year.”
* Mark Wills releases a suprisingly serious album this month with the unveiling of Looking For America- released on the independent Gracie Productions. The album includes a very strong song about a soldier's difficulty in recallibrating to home life after serving in the desert called "Crazy Being Home" that's one of the stronger unheard cuts of the year. In an initiative with USA Cares, Mark Wills is using the single to introduce the Warrior Treatment Today “Crazy Being Home” national awareness campaign surrounding the severity of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).  The album's release date is tomorrow, June 21, 2011.
“This is definitely a personal album for me and although some folks might see it as a bit of a departure from the music I’ve recorded in the past, this project is really ‘all-encompassing,’” Wills reveals. “It’s got gun and grit, pain and romance, heart-heavy emotions and is chock-full of life situations; there is a strong dose of reality in this record. All of the songs really spoke to me and I felt the ‘tug’ to record each and every one for very different reasons.”
* Dave Stewart- best known for his work with The Eurythmics- is releasing a Nashville-born Americana-themed album called The Blackbird Diaries on August 23rd. It features a co-write with Bob Dylan as well as duets with Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride, Colbie Caillat, and the Secret Sisters. From his press release:

The Blackbird Diaries is indeed a novel approach for Stewart: tenacious rock steeped in Americana and blues riffs with his most personal, story-driven lyrics to date.
*  30 Texas music legends including Willie Nelson, Rhett Miller, Shawn Colvin, Robert Earl Keen and dozens more have come together to both pay tribute and add to her philanthropic endeavors with fellow Texan Sara Hickman's The Best of Times. Sales of this compilation CD, available nationwide August 23, 2011, will benefit Theatre Action Project (TAP), a non-profit that brings art, music and theatre to Central Texas schools. The 38-track double disc project was inspired by a recent slash in arts funding by Texas State Legislature.
“I wanted to utilize my position as the Official State Musician of Texas to promote families being creative together,” says Hickman. “Many times this starts with children bringing home ideas they learn at school.”
* Jack Ingram has been travelling with Patty Griffin on tour the last couple of weeks and covers her song in his Acoustic Motel series about a soldier coming home after serving his duty overseas called "I Am Not A Bad Man." Check out the acoustic performance HERE.

Hear It Here: Mark Wills Launches "Crazy Being Home" For A Good Cause

Mark Wills, in alliance with USA Cares (a non-profit national military assistance charity founded to assist post-9/11 military families in emotional health and recovery, and bearing the burdens of service with financial and advocacy support), officiated the Warrior Treatment Today “Crazy Being Home” campaign last week at the 6th Annual National MilBlog Conference, presented by Military.com, at the Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 29,2011.

In an initiative with USA Cares to introduce the Warrior Treatment Today “Crazy Being Home” national awareness campaign surrounding the severity of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Wills performed the campaign theme song for the first time as the official spokesperson and USA Cares “voice” before conference attendees. The lyrics are poignant: “…It’s right to fight for what you love, but his young eyes have seen too much. Until you’ve been where he’s been, you wouldn’t understand…”

The campaign and corresponding web site (www.crazybeinghome.com) is an outreach to encourage and support America’s post-9/11 veterans, assist in raising funds for the PTSD and TBI programs and to serve as an outlet for those who suffer to share their mutual stories.

Recorded by Wills as a tribute to our brothers and sisters in service, “Crazy Being Home” is featured on his forthcoming album, due in June. Having traveled to visit the troops on many occasions, it is a heart-song for Wills.
"The first time I made a trip to visit our troops, I was amazed at their dedication. When I returned home, I was surprised to find myself overcome with emotion every time I tried to speak of my experiences,” Wills said. “Each time I tried to recount the stories to my family, friends and strangers alike, I could not get through my thoughts without becoming emotional...and I was only gone ten days and kept out of harm's way. It’s hard to imagine what these men and women go through to try to get back to ‘life’ as we all know it.”
Written by Chris Lindsey, Brad Warren, Bret Warren and Robin Lindsey, the song hits heart and soul--touching many. CrazyBeingHome.com early postings:

“I wonder what makes someone pick sandstorms over fresh country air? Why is she [my sister] happier in places where flak vests are required? Why isn't being home with us enough? The scariest question - what if over there is home, and not here with us? ...I heard your song…it answered the questions my sister couldn't.”
“My son, a former Marine SGT, is truly living the song ‘Crazy Being Home.’ Five years later, and two tours in Iraq, my son decided to leave his military life and give ‘being a civilian’ a try again. He’s fallen into my lap in tears, crying for help…begging me to help him to ‘just be ok.’ He asks me what’s wrong with him. These invisible wounds of war are real. I listen to Mark’s song and am brought to tears. Perhaps removing the stigma will help many of our young military personnel get the help they need, my son included.”
In existence for the past two years, the publicly funded USA Cares Warrior Treatment Today program has summoned over $800,000 enabling more than 500 OIF/OEF veterans residential treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Visitors of CrazyBeingHome.com may offer financial assistance as well as emotional support to share their personal stories with folks who care. “The goal behind the ‘Crazy Being Home’ program is two-fold: to elevate the success of USA Cares Warrior Treatment Today program and, more importantly, to just ‘be there’ to listen and to say ‘it’s gonna be okay,’” Wills closed.

His new CD, entitled Looking For America (featuring both the title cut that is currently at radio and the USA Cares Warrior Treatment Today campaign song, “Crazy Being Home”), will be available June 21, 2011.

New Music Video From Mark Wills- "Looking For America"

Mark Wills has released a brand new single to radio off of his Big Red M Record Label called "Looking For America." It's a look at how America has changed in recent years and how Wills hopes to regain the simple values, wholesome lifestyle and community pride that make this country strong.

"When I recorded the demo, the message really struck a chord with me. I knew that this song reflected not only my thoughts about the state of our country and our society as a whole, but the sentiment of many like me,” Mark Wills explains. “It is time for all of us to take responsibility for getting America back on track and out of the ‘lost and found.’”

Up & Coming New Nashville- Stepheni Elli

Stepheni Elli grew up along the San Joaquin River in Antioch, California just outside of San Francisco, where she remembers walking with her dog, Sassy, before school each morning at dawn along the train tracks tracing the water’s edge, her feet balancing on the metal rails, her voice releasing fresh new songs that came to her mind while watching the wide river twinkle with golden California sunrise, as Sassy smiled back at her with her tongue hanging out and loving life. Though Stepheni loved the California sun and the songs she wrote along the San Joaquin River, she knew she had to move to Nashville to delve into the music industry and make the connections she needed to make her music her true-life destiny.

Upon arrival in Nashville, TN, Stepheni started her Bachelor’s degree studies at Belmont University where she studied the complete business of the music industry, songwriting and performing; taking lessons from hit songwriters and top vocal coaches, and interning at prestigious music industry companies such as Carnival Music and Blacktop Music Group. These one-on-one interactions with the most successful Nashville producers, publishers, writers and recording artists provided Stepheni with a real insight into the way people make things happen in the music industry, and gave her the knowledge and confidence to know she could do the same. During her Belmont years Stepheni played shows in Music City, making friends with the songwriting community, and now Stepheni and her friends share in one another’s successes along their musical journeys.

Today, after her recent Belmont graduation, Stepheni continues mixing her music industry experience with both the creative side and the business side, playing live shows, making her CD, writing new songs, and working with the some of the most well known music companies on Music Row.

Along with the talent of music, Stepheni practices compassion to all living things. Stepheni chooses a vegan lifestyle, and is active in all kinds of charities; Stepheni’s most beloved work in the world is protecting the welfare of animals. Being an active volunteer, event coordinator and radio spokesperson for various animal charities in the US, she plans to continue to do so as her music career progresses.

Stepheni has opened shows for major label artists Mark Wills, Buddy Jewell, Chris Young, Trent Willmon, Wade Hayes, Erica Jo, and recently for Brooks and Dunn’s drummer’s music event, raising money for the cure of Huntington’s disease. She has trained and run for the Country Music Half Marathon with country superstars Diamond Rio for their children’s’ charity Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and she has worked with the Country Music Association for the annual big bash, CMA Fest a.k.a. Fan Fair. When in Nashville she works for some of the biggest music industry companies on Music Row, and pitches songs as a song plugger for songwriters.

Mark Wills Invites Fans To Make Video For "Crazy White Boy"

With more than six top ten and three number one songs on the country charts, including the smashes, "19 Somethin'," "I Do, Cherish You," and "Don't Laugh At Me," Mark Wills has the option of selecting country's best video directors to develop and produce his music videos. For his next single, "Crazy White Boy," Mark is asking his fans not only to give their input, but to put themselves both behind and in front of the camera.

"'Crazy White Boy' is my theme song and is a favorite of our fans every time we play a concert," Mark explains. "Often, after shows, fans will come up to me not only telling us how much they love the song but how the song is also their personal theme song. They then proceed to tell us these funny and unbelievable stories of the crazy things they and their friends do while listening to our music." It was during one of these meetings that the idea of having a fan make his video came about. "I thought that these stories portrayed the fun and true spirit of the song more than anything we could imagine. So, why not give our fans a chance to show us just how crazy they are? And then give the fans a chance to vote on their favorite video submissions."

Mark has created a special web page where fans can not only submit and view the video entries, but also cast their vote on which videos should be the winners. Mark is also excited about the voting process. "Voting is immediate and in real-time. Fans can see which video is in the lead at any time. It's easy for everyone to get their families and friends involved in the voting and picking the winners selected to be included my next video." These winning clips will be included along with footage shot with Mark and Chris Brackett, star of Sportsman Channel's top rated show, "Arrow Affliction."

Fans and future music video makers can visit www.markwills.com for more details, contest rules and a link to the online submission form. Winners will have their video played on Mark's websites and will receive a special Mark Wills prize package and a congratulatory call from Mark.

Mark Wills Shares Angel Stories

Country music artist Mark Wills' song “Entertaining Angels,” from his album Familiar Strangers, was inspired by one of his favorite Bible verses: Hewbrews 13:2, “Do not forget to entertain strangers for by doing this some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”

It got him thinking the question, “Who in your life has been your angel?”

As a promotional vehicle for the new single, Wills has made a website featuring a video of Mark sharing why he chose to record “Entertaining Angels” and what it means to him. As a thank you, everyone who shares their own story on the blog will receive a free download of Mark Wills' song “Entertaining Angels,” and is automatically entered to win a Mark Wills prize package with his album and other prizes.

Listen To The New Mark Wills Single Entertaining Angels

With all the tough economic news in the world these days, it's easy for people to feel like they are the only ones who have problems. Country singer Mark Wills' newest single, "Entertaining Angels," is a poignant song reminding listeners it's not always greener on the other side. "Entertaining Angels," written by Willie Mack, Keith Brown and Steve Mandile, is a thought provoking song and considered a "healing song" from Wills. Wills explains, "The song reminded me of my early playing days at the Buckboard Bar. 'Between the bar stools and pools tables' all the regulars would share their own life stories. It can be easy to feel sorry for yourself and your circumstances until you hear everyone else's struggles. All of sudden all your 'problems seem so small.'" Wills adds, "I heard the song before I recorded it and I realized it was inspired by of one of my favorite bible verses, Hebrews 13:2, 'do not forget to entertain strangers for by doing this some people have entertained angels without knowing it.'"
