Write You A Song Podcast - An Interview With Nicolle Galyon
It's his hope that this podcast will shine a little overdue spotlight on the talented men and women who, mostly behind the scenes, write the songs that become part of our lives. You know their words and music, but maybe not their names: Write You a Song will feature some of country music’s biggest songwriters--like Jeffrey Steele, Brett Warren, Ashley McBryde, Tim Nichols and more.
Sometimes in life, you have to find out what you don’t want to do, before you figure out what you do wanna do. And that’s definitely part Nicolle Galyon's story.
Originally planning for a career in artist management, Galyon moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University. But, she took an interest in the artist/creative side after attending a few songwriter open mic nights, which led to an eventual appearance on NBC’s The Voice in 2012, where she was selected for Adam Levine's team. And during that stint, she says she realized that she didn’t really like being onstage. A lover of writing from early on, The Voice helped her realize that her creative focus should locked in totally and completely on songwriting. It also introduced her to an artist named Miranda Lambert, with whom she would form a friendship and working relationship with. From there, Nicolle Galyon knew what she wanted to do.
She has written songs for Lady A, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Florida Georgia Line, and many others. Galyon has written six No. 1 hits including “Automatic,” Miranda Lambert’s chart-topping lead single from her critically album Platinum, which debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart and featured five songs by Galyon.

That Nashville Sound Saturday Newsbytes - New Projects From Eric Church, Valerie June, David Olney & More
Nashville goes pretty dark at the end of December, but it looks like the big gears have started turning in earnest as we go into 2021 as there are a slew of new project and newsworthy events to report on this morning.
In keeping with his longtime commitment to put fans first, Church created the middle album, &, specifically for the Church Choir and will make it available exclusively to those fans and only as a vinyl record on Tuesday, April 20. The other two albums, Heart and Soul, will be available everywhere on Friday, April 16 and Friday, April 23, respectively. Pre-orders for all three albums begin next Friday, January 29.
Along with prioritizing his fans, just as important to Church is the constant desire to push the limits of his artistry, an effort that was on full display during the month-long creative process that went into the creation of this collection.
“I’ve always been intrigued when a song is born in a writer room – there is a magic that happens there,” shares Church of the unique process that went into making this project. “I wanted to put that in the studio form. So, every day, we would write a song in the morning and we would record the song that night. Doing it that way allowed for the songwriters to get involved in the studio process and the musicians to be involved in the creative process. You felt a little bit like you were secretly doing something that was special, and you knew it… You started going, ‘hmm, wait ’til the world finds out about this.’”
Recorded in Los Angeles and Miami, June collaborated with prolific producer Jack Splash to merge the influences of Femi Kuti, David Bowie producer Tony Visconti and the host of "eclectic" artists who contributed to the album, her follow-up to 2017's The Order of Time.
"With this record, it finally became clear why I have this dream of making music," June said in a statement. "It's not for earthly reasons of wanting to be awarded or to win anybody's love — it's because dreaming keeps me inquisitive and keeps me on that path of learning what I have to share with the world. When we allow ourselves to dream like we did when we were kids, it ignites the light that we all have within us and helps us to have a sort of magic about the way we live."
Almost one year to the day after his passing, folk artists David Olney will have his final album released posthumously. A new project called Whispers and Sighs is set for release on March 26 on Schoolkids Records.

- Hugely successful songwriter Hugh X Lewis passed away at the age of 90. He wrote numerous hit singles for other artists and starred on national TV, charting 15 titles on the country charts between 1964 and 1979.
- Dolly Parton's brother Randy Parton passed away from cancer at the age of 67. He charted a couple hits of his own back in the early 80's and frequently played bass for her on tour.

Shenandoah Collaborates With Modern Country Radio Stars On Upcoming Every Road Album Release

GRAMMY, ACM and CMA winning band Shenandoah, led by frontman Marty Raybon and co-founding member Mike McGuire, haven't released an album of all-new music since 1994. That'll change Nov. 13, 2020 with Every Road via Foundry Records, which includes the band being paired with fellow stars including collaborations with Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Ashley McBryde, Dierks Bentley, Lady A, Zac Brown Band, Carly Pearce, Cody Johnson and Brad Paisley. The first single off the new album, "I'd Take Another One of Those," featuring Zac Brown Band.
Every Road will be the band's 10th studio album after notching 13 No. 1 hits and charting 26 singles on Billboard country charts throughout their career.
Shenandoah, fueled by Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, are celebrated for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the brilliant “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss.

Write You A Song Podcast - An Interview With Rodney Clawson
We share another new podcast from host Tom Mailey from Bonneville radio station New Country 105.1 KNCI in Sacramento. Tom is a country radio veteran with over 30 years of experience in Seattle and Sacramento and a key partner in our Golf & Guitars Children's Charity Music Festival, a little event in our twelfth year that has raised well north of a million bucks for kids and individuals with disabilities. It highlights the songwriters in our industry and is entitled Write You a Song.

Rodney Clawson is one of the most unusual country songwriters to guest on Write You a Song. He's also one of the most successful. A farmer in Texas most of his life, songwriting was never even a consideration until one day he got a call from a friend who'd moved to Nashville. Annually, he writes about 160 songs but claims he only gets "10-12 good ideas a year". Among those good ideas: songs that have gone on to become massive hits, like "May We All" for Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" and "Amarillo Sky", Kenny Chesney's "American Kids," Luke Bryan's "Drunk On You" and "Bartender" for Lady A. And that's just skimming the surface.
His is one of the most unlikely songwriting success stories you'll ever hear...and that's not even counting that when he was in colleged he coached a kid named John Rich on a high school basketball team.
