Maddie & Tae unveiled details today for their upcoming EP One Heart To Another, available April 26 on Mercury Nashville. Featuring five tracks, predominantly co-written by Maddie & Tae’s Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye, the highly-anticipated project represents stories of love, loss and redemption and is a snapshot of more music to come from the award-winning duo later this year. 

"This is much more than just a new project for us. It has been our light at the end of tunnel for the past two years. It is about two best friends experiencing the highest of highs, the lowest of lows, and everything in between together. We hope our fans hear the vulnerability, heart break, strength, truth and passion we’ve poured into this. This is only the beginning,” said Marlow.

"The journey to create this project was long, but beautiful,” added Dye. "We put our heads down and tried to be the best artists we could be. And to us that looked like writing lyrics from a very honest place and sharing them with the hopes that someone out in the world feels less alone. So here is One Heart to Another. From our hearts to yours."

Maddie & Tae recently earned a Duo of the Year nomination for the upcoming 54th Academy of Country Music Awards making it their sixth career nomination from the ACM. Tune in April 7 for the broadcast live from Las Vegas on CBS at 8pm ET. The duo is also gearing up to hit the road as part of Carrie Underwood’s Cry Pretty Tour 360, kicking off May 1 in Greensboro, N.C.

Ronnie Dunn Preps Tattooed Heart For Late October Release

Ronnie Dunn has brought in a couple of familiar faces on his upcoming Big Machine Records release, Tattooed Heart. With Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts on board as the producer for most of the tracks, the project features guest vocals by friends Kix Brooks and Reba McEntire.

“I had a lot of fun making this album. Jay and I really clicked in the studio and we were both really proud of the final product,” said Dunn. “I branched out of my comfort zone while writing and listening to a ton of music. At the suggestion of my daughter, I even recorded an Ariana Grande song. Ironically, it became the title of the album.”

The lead single from the album, “Damn Drunk,” was released just over two weeks ago. It features vocals from his longtime Brooks & Dunn partner Brooks and was written by Liz Hengber, Alex Kline and Ben Stennis. “This is one of those tunes that I immediately gravitated to,” Dunn said at the time of the release. “I listened to hundreds of songs while writing a few myself. Jay and I took it into the studio and it went to another level. Witnessing a song do that is magic. It is one of the most gratifying dynamics of music for me. Thanks to Kix, my long time compadre in crime, for joining in on the fun.”

We've got a few details on new projects today...

- David Nail unveiled his artwork and track listing for his upcoming July 15 MCA Nashville release, Fighter. The project includes 11 tracks including Nail’s current hit single “Night’s On Fire” written by Jonathan Singleton and Deric Ruttan. Guests on the album include Vince Gill, Lori McKenna, Brothers Osborne, Logan Brill and members of NEEDTOBREATHE.

- Kacey Musgraves is in the studio recording a Christmas album that will be out this holiday.

- Dwight Yoakam is teaming up with Jack White to release a 7″ vinyl single. White's Blue Series will release Yoakam’s recordings of two songs: “Tomorrow’s Gonna Be Another Day” (Boyce/Venet, popularized by The Monkees) and “High On The Mountain of Love” (Dorman, popularized by Kenny Lynch, then Johnny Rivers, then the Beach Boys).

- Hits Daily Double has listed Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler's debut solo country album release date of July 15 and is entitled We're All Somebody From Somewhere. A little hunting around the internet finds possible cover art for the Big Machine Records project.

 

Jonathan Singleton Preps The Getaway As New Indie Solo Album Release

Jonathan Singleton earned a good deal of radio play in the late 2000s, both as the frontman for his own project, appropriately named Jonathan Singleton and the Grove, but also as a songwriter who penned a number of Top Ten hits for other rising country music performers. His first big break came in 2007, when "Watching Airplanes," performed by Gary Allan, shot to number two on the Billboard Country Chart. Over the next few years, Singleton wrote and co-wrote several more songs that burst onto the charts, among them "Red Light" (David Nail), "Don't" (Billy Currington), and "Why Don't We Just Dance" (Josh Turner), which debuted at number five on the U.S. Billboard 200. The singles released by JS&TG only dented the charts and after an EP was released in 2010, Sony/Universal released him from his contract.

But just signed to a new publishing deal with Big Machine Records, Singleton has a brand new solo album in the works that will be released by the end of this year called The Getaway. There's no formal release date as of yet.

Grammy-nomiated artist David Nail has released a brand new song, "Let It Rain", off of his upcoming sophomore and untitled new album. The single is written by Nail & Jonathan Singleton and is being released to radio this week. Sarah Buxton sings background vocals.

That Nashville Sound receives many different CD releases throughout the year from indie, bluegrass and artists just off the mainstream radar that we’re doing short mini CD reviews on. We call them That Nashville Soundbites- it’s a feature that will allow us to give some props to some albums and artists that deserve a spotlight on their work.

The Skinny: For those unfamiliar with Jonathan Singleton, he’s co-wrote the singles "Watching Airplanes" for Gary Allan and "Don't" for Billy Currington, both of which peaked at #2, as well as co-wrote David Nail's "Red Light" and Josh Turner's "Why Don't We Just Dance." On this EP, culls his Memphis and Nashville influences and reveals a guitar driven and blues-influenced album that resembles Allan’s “Airplanes.” His voice is engaging and the production is interesting, but with the exception of “Look Who’s Back In Love,” the material isn’t all that revealing. Perhaps Singleton is using the sound/instrumentation for that reveal, but for this reviewer, I’d like to hear more about Singleton in his music. Most disappointing on the album, however, is the absence of what I thought was a terrific single- and one way too unappreciated by country radio- “Living In Paradise.” The single dipped into the Top 50 of the charts, but mysteriously, it’s missing here on his first release. The album easily could have included that single as well as a cover of a couple of his co-writes to strengthen it a bit.
