~ Many Texas singer-songwriters have been doing a digital guitar pull dedication show across Facebook every Monday night that has quite possibly been the musical highlight of this music fan since the quarantine began. The group has paid tribute to some legendary musicians such as John Prine,  Joe Diffie, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Dolly Parton, Tom T. Hall and Don Williams. Monday night, June 1st, catch the tribute to Guy Clark starting at 6pm CDT. As for the featured songwriters, the list is star studded with some of your favorites such as Jamie Lin Wilson, Walt Wilkins, Heather and Max Stalling, Drew Kennedy, Courtney Patton, Cody Canada, Jason Eady, Josh Abbott, Mike Harmeier and Wade Bowen… the list goes on. ~ Darius Rucker now might have the second-best vocals in his house. The Opry member and Hootie frontman made the best of stay at home orders and family time and decided to play around with garage band and put his producer hat on. With his daughter Dani Rucker back home from college, she joined on lead vocals on a new track called "I Don't Love You Like That."

~ Vlogger Grady Smith broke down the many sub-genres of country music for the "beginner."  

~ Be sure to check out the phenomenal new album from Mike and the Moonpies. The full-length album is called 'Touch of You - The Lost Songs of Gary Stewart.' The most interesting piece of news about this project is that these are unreleased tracks (circa: 70s and 80s) from country music icon Gary Stewart. The band has been working closely with Stewart's daughter, Shannon, and his longtime friend/confidante Tommy Schwartz to get these songs recorded and out in to the world.  The band had initially intended to release this album later this year. Due to circumstances with COVID-19//tour dates on hold, they decided to finish recording it and release it early on Stewart's birthday, May 28. The album was produced by Adam Odor and recorded remotely from each band member's home studios and at yellow DOG Studios in Wimberley, TX. One highlight to note is "Smooth Shot of Whiskey" featuring Mark Wystrach from Midland. Other guests include harmony vocal help from Jamie Lin Wilson (“Heart A Home”), Courtney Patton (“Heart A Home,” “Dance With Barbara”) and Zac Wilkerson (“The Gold Barstool”). 

~ Despite the struggles independent musicians have been facing recently, twenty-five Texas artists have banded together to help raise money and awareness for a population of people with even greater struggles than their own. The group of singer-songwriters, along with notable band and orchestral musicians, have joined forces as the Fort Worth Musicians Choir, to support the area’s struggling refugee community, with the release of their grand version of the Willie Nelson classic “Living in the Promiseland,” written by David Lynn Jones and originally released by Nelson in 1986. All proceeds from the song and video, as well as an upcoming benefit concert scheduled for June 21st in Fort Worth, benefit the Refugee Services of Texas, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes and jobs for, educating, and acclimating the area's refugee population. ~ Johnny Cash’s often overlooked and underappreciated chapter of his body of work will be showcased with a suite of releases via Mercury/UMe including a comprehensive new box set, The Complete Mercury Recordings 1986-1991, and a new greatest hits album, Easy Rider: The Best Of The Mercury Recordings, a newly assembled collection that compiles 24 highlights selected from Cash’s Mercury catalog. The CD version of The Complete Mercury Recordings 1986-1991 is augmented with several rare or previously unreleased tracks and an additional 20-track disc of spare early mixes aptly titled Classic Cash: Hall Of Fame Series (Early Mixes), mastered from tapes newly discovered in the Mercury vaults.

Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, John Berry, has released his latest project. The EP, Thomas Road, is named after the street he grew up on in Decatur, GA and where his passion and love for music took a hold of his desire to become a recording artist.

“I was fortunate to grow up in a home where music was always celebrated. The sounds of gospel, classical, country or pop were always present, but it was the latter years of elementary school into high school that were a significant time for me. Carole King wove "Tapestry," John Denver came down a "Country Road," Cat Stevens rode in on a " Peace Train" and I began playing the guitar,” stated John Berry in the liner notes. “Listening to a white AM radio on the shop table in my dad's garage helped me to dream bigger than who I was. The music drew me in and I had to be a part of it... it was a part of me. With my dad's encouragement and help, we built a little studio in the basement of our house and I recorded my first four albums there. The fire inside me grew. I am beyond grateful for the inspiration I found in family, friends and music on Thomas Road. All those memories keep calling me back home to Thomas Road.”

John Berry Kickstarts New Album Project With A November-ish Release Date

John Berry is headed back into the studio to record a full album of (roughly) ten new songs on a project he'd like to release in November of this year- and he's looking to his fans to help be a part of it ahead of time.

Berry has gone to Kickstarter to help fund the new project, in which he announces:

"Wow! It has been a great year! Robin and I were given the chance to move to Nashville last summer and it has been awesome! I have been renewed musically and taken advantage of every opportunity I could to submerse myself into the songwriting world. I cannot recall spending this much time writing since I last wrote Standing On The Edge Of Goodbye in 1995. I have truly enjoyed this resurgence of creativity.

In the next few months I will be recording a brand new CD and want to give you the opportunity to play a major role in making this project successful. My last recording was funded through Kickstarter and now I'm back 4 years later using it again. Kickstarter is a great tool designed to help independent artist like me, fund creative projects by involving family, friends and fans in the process.

My new recording project will be a two disc set. Disc one will contain great songs that I have found from incredibly gifted songwriters here in Nashville, and songs I have co-written with friends. Disc two will be five songs of Christmas/inspirational music that I have created my own arrangements to. These are songs I love to sing and can't wait to incorporate into this years Christmas Tour.

A budget and goal for the project has been thoughtfully created. In regards to the goal, the Kickstarter policy is "all or nothing." If 100% of the target amount is not met, then I do not receive any funds and the project will not be funded. Pledged amounts on your credit card / debit card will only be charged when the campaign is over and the funding goal of $50,000 in 40 days has been met. I have faith the goal will be met!

I have surrounded myself with an incredible team of people. Brent Mason, world renowned guitarist, will be collaborating on this project with me. We have met and begun pre-production on arrangements and instrumentation. We have also put together a band of some of the greatest players ever! I can't wait for you to hear it! It's the heart and soul of who I am and what I am called to do."

John Mellencamp, Terri Clark, Kenny Chesney and John Berry Announce New Album Projects

Four different music veterans announced new music projects this past week in John Mellencamp, Terri Clark, Kenny Chesney and John Berry.

John Mellencamp, the veteran heartland rocker behind such hits as "Hurts So Good," "Wild Night" and "Jack & Diane," just signed a "lifetime" recording deal with Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group, and announced a new full-length album set to come out this fall.  The forthcoming album, titled Plain Spoken, will be Mellencamp's 22nd record.

Terri Clark has announced her next appropriately named album, called Some Songs, will be released on September 2. The first single from the project, the title track, is already available digitally. Terri went to her fans to help out with the new project through the PledgeMusic platform. Brandy Clark has also penned two of the tracks.

And last but not least, John Berry announced that he will be headed back into the studio shortly and will have producer Buddy Cannon at the helm making the record. Cannon has just finished a new project by Kenny Chesney (which is supposed to come out this autumn) and will tackle Berry's next studio album. Berry's shooting for a late fall delivery on his new project as well.
