Steven Curtis Chapman Named As Newest Member Of The Grand Ole Opry
Steven Curtis Chapman is still in awe after being invited to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry. Chapman, who has 50 No.1 hits, made his Opry debut 42 years ago when he was just 19 years old. At that time, he was a performer at Opryland Theme Park singing the songs of Opry greats including George Jones, Ricky Skaggs and more.
Now the most-awarded artist in Christian music history, Chapman was surprised when Ricky Skaggs invited Chapman to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry following a performance Sunday night.
Skaggs approached his friend with a framed photo of a young Chapman around his Opry debut.
“Get a good picture because this is going to go great beside that picture right there that he’s taking because you are going to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry if you want to!? Only if you want to!?”
Chapman was blown away, dropping down to one knee.
"I cannot tell you how surprised I am. I had no idea," said Chapman. "I am so honoured and so grateful. What an amazing family to be a part of."
Chapman's induction date will be announced soon.

Live From The Grand Ole Opry - Craig Morgan, Kellie Pickler & Steven Curtis Chapman Salute The Troops
U.S. Army veteran and country singer Craig Morgan joined contemporary Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman and country and television star Kellie Pickler on stage in Nashville for a "Grand Ole Opry Salute the Troops Memorial Day Weekend Special" last night.
You can watch the performance in its entirety below.
The event honored both the United States military and the essential workers who are on the frontline of the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. The Grand Ole Opry show was the 4,925th consecutive show (dating back to 1925) even though it's been held in an empty 4,000-seat auditorium these last couple of months because of the coronavirus.

Steven Curtis Chapman Enlists Help From Ricky Skaggs, Lori McKenna And Gary LeVox On Upcoming Bluegrass Album Release

Five-time GRAMMY-winner, Steven Curtis Chapman, is honoring his rural Kentucky heritage as he announces Deeper Roots: Where The Bluegrass Grows available on all music platforms March 22. Today, Chapman released a bluegrass version of "Dive" featuring recent Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee, Ricky Skaggs, as the lead single.
Deeper Roots serves as the sequel to Chapman's 2013 Billboard No. 1 Bluegrass Album Deep Roots, which was exclusively released with Cracker Barrel. Along with Skaggs, Chapman was also joined by Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts for a collaboration on "'Til The Blue." Chapman performed the song, which he wrote with Lori McKenna and Barry Dean, for the first time on the Grand Ole Opry stage. This past Tuesday, Chapman, accompanied by The Travelin' McCourys, performed "Dive" to a packed Opry House. The multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter will return to the Opry for a performance and in-store signing of Deeper Roots on March 26.
Deeper Roots was produced by Chapman and Brent Milligan, engineered by Milligan and Brent King, mixed by Milligan, King and Sean Moffitt and mastered by Brad Blackwood at Euphonic Masters. The 13-track collection features a mixture of familiar hymns like "Life Is Like A Mountain Railroad" and "I'll Fly Away," fan-favorite hits including "Cinderella" and brand-new songs such as "Where The Bluegrass Grows" and the aforementioned "'Til The Blue."

Ronnie Milsap is using a little help from his friends with a project of duets on some of his biggest hits that will feature duets with Kacey Musgraves, Billy Gibbons, Luke Bryan, Dolly Parton, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jason Aldean, Willie Nelson, Little Big Town and George Strait. In addition, for what are likely their last recordings ever, the project also features the late Leon Russell and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry.
Country legend Ronnie Milsap has updated some of his classics — and has teamed up with one of the genre’s brightest new stars to sing it. The 75-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer released his new rendition of his 1981 hit “No Getting Over Me” featuring Musgraves.
“Singing with Kacey is so much fun. She’s a pure vocalist and knows how to lean into a melody,” Milsap told PEOPLE about the pair’s collaboration which will be featured on his upcoming album.
“Having her on this gave the song a whole new twist, which is what music is all about. How do you take what you know and make it even more?” he explains.
The project marks his 28th studio album and will feature Luke Bryan on “Stranger in My House” and Jason Aldean “Prisoner of the Highway”.
“My duet with Willie is a new song that Mike Reid wrote called ‘A Woman’s Love’,” says Milsap. “He and I had 12 number one records together in the ‘80s like 'Stranger in My House' and 'Old Folks.' I sent ‘A Woman’s Love’ to Willie. He told me, ‘I love the song.’ So he’s gonna sing on it and play guitar in his home studio."

New Music Video From Steven Curtis Chapman - "We Remember"
On this Veterans Day, Steven Curtis Chapman released this live video of a special song with a beautiful personal sentiment.
Said Chapman, "A while back I was thinking about my Grandpa Rubel Rudd who received a Purple Heart medal for his service in World War II. He was injured by a grenade in The Battle of Okinawa where many of his buddies were killed, and he carried the scars with him until the day he went to heaven on Dec 18 of 2003. He was one of the greatest men I've ever known. One of my great memories with him was getting to introduce him to one of his heroes, Rev. Billy Graham, when I was singing at a Billy Graham Crusade in Nashville in 2000. I have an amazing picture of those 2 great men of God shaking hands as I'm looking on with a huge smile on my face."
"I remember hearing stories of how my mom who was just a baby when he left for the war was afraid of this "stranger" when he first returned home after being injured. Thankfully, with time, prayer and God's grace they had many good years together as a family. But it's always reminded me that there is a very high price paid by so many for the gift of freedom that we enjoy every day in this great country...and I wanted to just take a moment to say Thank You! So I did what I usually do when I have something to say...I wrote a song of course! If you are someone who has served or is currently serving our country or are a family member of someone who has or is serving, please know, "We Remember"."

Says Chapman about the new project, “About a year a half ago I started writing songs and working on a new "project. I feel like all the songs I've written over the years are "worship songs" in the sense that they're written to honor and glorify God, His word and His promises, and to honor Him with the gifts He's given me. However, this new project is the first ever that I've written as a "corporate worship experience" with the hope and desire being to create songs that you, my brothers and sisters in "The Body" (which is one of the songs on the project) might sing with me... proclamations of Truth that we can declare together. These songs have come out of my own journey, particularly of the last seven years of learning the "life-giving power" of hearing my own voice and the voice of other believers around me declare what is most true and most real...what God says is true, even when pain, doubt, grief, confusion are very real.”
Nashville-resident Chapman has been recognized as one of the most prolific singers in the genre of Christian music, releasing over 20 albums. Chapman has also won five Grammy awards and 58 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, more than any other artist in history. His seven "Artist of the Year" Dove Awards, his latest in 2009, are also an industry record. As of 2014, Chapman has sold more than 10 million albums and has 10 RIAA-certified Gold or Platinum albums.
