That Nashville Sound Monday Newsbytes: New Music Videos & Albums On The Way From Cody Johnson, Adam Wakefield & More

There's lots of news that popped up over the weekend and we've got several new music videos and new forthcoming projects to give you the low-down on...

- Kelsea Ballerini released a new music video for her song "Miss Me More."

- Jared Ashley released a powerful new music video on a song called "Cherrybend."  Cherrybend” is inspired by Operation Cherrybend, an annual event held in Wilmington, Ohio that strives to thank our nation’s wounded veterans and to spread awareness about veterans’ issues.

- Grammy winning artists Keb Mo and Rosanne Cash have teamed up on a new music video titled "Put A Woman In Charge."

- The Voice runner-up Sundance Head has a new music video for his song "Leave Her Wild."

- Ty Herndon has a new music video for a Marc Cohn "dance" cover of "Walking In Memphis."

- A very intriguing guest list has me excited about a forthcoming new album, North Country.  It's coming from Irish Americana artist Danny Burns, who just signed to Bonfire Recording Co. North Country drops Jan 18. Seriously, check out this amazing guest list: Tift Merritt, Holly Williams, Mindy Smith, Cara Dillon, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien, Dan Tyminski, Critter Fuqua of Old Crow Medicine Show.

- Average Joes Entertainment recording artist and Season 10 runner-up on the The Voice, Adam Wakefield will release his debut, 12-track, full-length album Gods & Ghosts on November 30, 2018. “I picked twelve of my best songs, called up three of my favorite musicians, and recorded the album I have been waiting my whole life for,” said Wakefield. “This is the first time I’ve had complete freedom to record the songs I wanted, in whatever way I wanted. The process was scary, but so rewarding. There’s a long list of people that have supported this record and put their faith in me to produce something extraordinary, and I truly believe we did the songs justice. This record represents the truest version of me.”

- Alligator Records has set a January 11, 2019 release date for Live At The Ramblin' Man Fair, the new album from Grammy-winning band The Kentucky Headhunters. The band -- guitarist/vocalist Richard Young, his brother drummer Fred Young, guitarist Greg Martin and bassist/vocalist Doug Phelps --- had never before been to Europe in their 30-plus year career.

Margo Price, Kris Kristofferson And Dolly Parton Join Adele And Others On Brandi Carlile's Benefit Album

Album: Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of the Story (An Album To Benefit War Child)
Label: Columbia
Release date: May 5, 2017

Nearly everything you need to know about this project is in the foreword that former President Barack Obama wrote for the album. He said, "As an artist, Brandi Carlile is using her talent on behalf of the most vulnerable among us, children living in areas of conflict. She reminds us that, together, we can build for our children a more just, peaceful world."

Carlile has collected covers of many of her songs from her heroes, artists who are fans of hers and mutual fans of one-another and put together an album in which 100% of the proceeds will end up going to benefit War Child.

In Carlile's own words:
Do you remember Sunday school? Goliath was a giant, he was undefeated, menacing and a paralyzing presence in his time. Goliath is our refugee crisis and the apathy it breeds. In particular, this giant is most devastating in that it is destroying the lives of the truly innocent, the hope of the world - children.
To quote Barack Obama – “These children are no less curious, hopeful and worthy of love than our own”. Instinctually, we understand this with such sobering clarity that it paralyzes us, frozen in the realization that Goliath might just be too big.
I am not big, or tall, or rich, or very powerful at all, are you? I close my eyes at the movies and although I’ve dreamed of being a singer my whole life, I’ve never really wanted or achieved monumental fame. I’ve lived in proximity to it for long enough though to know that The Story might be the biggest rock I’ll ever get my hands on and that’s more than enough for me. The Story is our rock, I’ve never had much of an arm though… and this story isn’t about me.
You are David.
Be David.

Grand Ole Opry Invites Old Crow Medicine Show To Become Newest Members

Popular modern-day string band Old Crow Medicine Show was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry last night by Opry member and friend Marty Stuart during the group’s concert at the Ohio Theatre in Cleveland, OH. The group will formally be inducted into the Opry at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Tues., Sept. 17. Among the award-winning group’s first performances in Nashville were on the sidewalks outside the Opry House in Summer 2000, playing for fans entering and exiting Opry performances. The band graduated to the Opry stage for its official Opry debut on Jan. 13, 2001, and has become a fan favorite during dozens of Opry performances since.

Near the end of the concert, Stuart surprised the group on stage, saying, “In 1925, there was a show started in Nashville called the Grand Ole Opry. It was founded on a traditional fiddle tune. It was founded on hard-hitting old-time music. It was founded on being a good-natured riot. And it’s been going on for 88 years. It’s a great American story. Would you all consider becoming a part of this great American story and becoming Grand Ole Opry members?”

Old Crow members answered with a resounding yes and hands in the air while the sold-out crowd responded with a standing ovation. Stuart and the band then combined forces on “We Don’t Grow Tobacco” before the band launched into its signature crowd favorite, “Wagon Wheel.”

“Inviting Old Crow to become our next member is truly exciting for us,” said Pete Fisher, Opry vice president and general manager. “For one, Old Crow has grown before our eyes from entertaining Opry-goers for free in the Opry Plaza a dozen years ago to rank today among the most respected and popular acts in music. The band leaves the audience wanting more every time it takes the Opry stage, or any stage."

“It’s also exciting that in many ways Old Crow looks and sounds a lot like some of the string bands of the 1920s  which helped first propel the Opry to national prominence,” Fisher continued. “While recent Opry inductees and contemporary hit-makers such as Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, and Dierks Bentley, will help shape the Opry in coming years, our future is also in excellent hands with this group which happens to be quite reminiscent of our musical past. It’s an awesome full circle
