Artist: Shenandoah
Album: Every Road
Label: Foundry Records

Shenandoah, fueled by Raybon’s distinctive vocals and the band’s skilled musicianship, are celebrated for delivering such hits as “Two Dozen Roses”, “Church on Cumberland Road” and “Next to You, Next to Me” as well as such achingly beautiful classics as “I Want to be Loved Like That” and the brilliant “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” duet with Alison Krauss.

Write You A Song Podcast - An Interview With Rodney Clawson

We share another new podcast from host Tom Mailey from Bonneville radio station New Country 105.1 KNCI in Sacramento. Tom is a country radio veteran with over 30 years of experience in Seattle and Sacramento and a key partner in our Golf & Guitars Children's Charity Music Festival, a little event in our twelfth year that has raised well north of a million bucks for kids and individuals with disabilities. It highlights the songwriters in our industry and is entitled Write You a Song.

It's his hope that this podcast will shine a little overdue spotlight on the talented men and women who, mostly behind the scenes, write the songs that become part of our lives. You know their words and music, but maybe not their names: Write You a Song will feature some of country music’s biggest songwriters--like Jeffrey Steele, Brett Warren, Ashley McBryde, Tim Nichols and more.

Rodney Clawson is one of the most unusual country songwriters to guest on Write You a Song. He's also one of the most successful. A farmer in Texas most of his life, songwriting was never even a consideration until one day he got a call from a friend who'd moved to Nashville. Annually, he writes about 160 songs but claims he only gets "10-12 good ideas a year". Among those good ideas: songs that have gone on to become massive hits, like "May We All" for Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" and "Amarillo Sky", Kenny Chesney's "American Kids," Luke Bryan's "Drunk On You" and "Bartender" for Lady A. And that's just skimming the surface.

His is one of the most unlikely songwriting success stories you'll ever hear...and that's not even counting that when he was in colleged he coached a kid named John Rich on a high school basketball team. Give it a listen and see why he says if you want to be good, sometimes you have to "dare to suck".

Eric Church Collaborator & Bandmate Jeff Hyde To Release Own Album, Norman Rockwell World

Artist: Jeff Hyde
Album: Norman Rockwell World
Label: Jeff Hyde Records
Release date: February 23, 2018

Already a Grammy-nominated songwriter and longtime member of Eric Church's touring band, Jeff Hyde makes his solo debut with Norman Rockwell World. Produced by fellow songwriter Ryan Tyndell, the 10-track album arrives February 23.

Over the past dozen years, Hyde has written many country hits for other artists, including Eric Church's chart-topping singles "Springsteen," "Record Year" and“Round Here Buzz.” A long line of artists including Alan Jackson, George Strait, Bobby Bare, Luke Bryan, Charlie Worsham, Nikki Lane and Becky Buller have also put their own stamp on his songs, but still much of his material remains unused. It’s a natural result of Hyde being one of Nashville's busiest songwriters, in an industry where more songs are written than are ever heard.

Norman Rockwell World rounds up 10 of those untouched compositions, including songs written alongside fellow hitmakers Michael Heeney, Clint Daniels, and Casey Beathard.

"When you write for a publishing company for years, you eventually wind up with songs you're proud of that are just sitting on a shelf," says Hyde, who landed his first publishing deal in 2005. "That was part of the reason for doing this record. We wanted to take some of those best songs and give them a life."

A native of Marshall, Texas, Hyde moved to Nashville in 2001. He was raised on the sounds of artists such as Keith Whitley, Tom T. Hall, and The Statler Brothers — chart-topping country singers who wrote many of their own hits. "You could turn their records around and look at the back to see who wrote the songs," he remembers, "and the singers were also the writers. I always knew songwriting was the core thing I wanted to do in the music business. I wanted to start with that foundation, anything further would be a bonus.”

Per the press release:
Norman Rockwell World roots itself in Hyde's songwriting chops, and also introduces him as a talented vocalist who delivers a song with the same finesse he uses to spin a lyric. He sings each song in a welcomingly strong voice, one that may be familiar to Eric Church's fans who have seen Hyde play acoustic instruments and sing harmonies in Church's band for more than a decade. He beefs up his sound with everything from banjo riffs to mandolin solos. The music itself nods to his longtime influences — including 1980s trailblazers like Don Williams, Whitley, and Vern Gosdin — without losing its modern appeal.
With his solo debut, Hyde plants one foot in the classic twang of his favorite writers, then points the other toward more progressive sounds. This is the sound of a country veteran getting his overdue share of the spotlight, stepping up to the mic for a batch of songs that are as warm and slyly nostalgic as Norman Rockwell's artwork itself.

Erin Enderlin Enlists Help From Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Randy Houser, Ricky Skaggs & More On Upcoming Whiskeytown Crier Album

Artist: Erin Enderlin
Album: Whiskeytown Crier
Contributors: Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Randy Houser, Ricky Skaggs & More
Release date: September 1, 2017

Erin Enderlin has achieved success (and awards) as a songwriter for country legends such as Randy Travis, Terri Clark and Joey + Rory- and covers a handful of her own compositions here including “Monday Morning Church” (Alan Jackson); “Last Call” (Lee Ann Womack) and “You Don’t Jack” (Luke Bryan). When Enderlin first released her 2013 album, I Let Her Talk, this very site called it one of the ten best albums of the year, marking it as "an incredible record about emotional reactions, love, alcohol and loss. The killer of the album was the title track, a tale of a woman who meets her husband’s lover in a bar, without revealing her identity. The spurned spouse then buys his lover drink after drink as she spills details of the affair.  She sings, “A careless drunk will tell the cold, hard truth”. It's three chords and the truth with a heartache chaser."  It was a project that held a spotlight to an incredible songwriter at the very height of her craft and left us clamoring for more.

Now four years later, she's back with another project and has enlisted some of the most critically-acclaimed names in country music to assist her with the new album. Enderlin’s highly anticipated new album Whiskeytown Crier puts all the sad souls she’s become known for singing and writing about in the same tiny, fictional city. The result is unprecedented: a concept album devoted to women’s experiences in small town, America.   This concept album was produced by Jamey Johnson and Jim “Moose” Brown and features involvement from some of country music's most authentic artists Chris Stapleton, Randy Houser, Ricky Skaggs, Heidi Newfield, Jon Randall, and more.

Whiskeytown Crier tracklist:

1. Intro
2. Caroline (Jim "Moose" Brown/ Erin Enderlin)
3. Baby Sister (Erin Enderlin/ Shane McAnally/ Felix McTeigue)
4. Ain't It Just Like A Cowboy (Erin Enderlin/ Heather Little)

8. The Coldest In Town - duet with Randy Houser (Erin Enderlin/ Steve Leslie)

10. Broken (Erin Enderlin)
11. Hickory Wind (Gram Parsons/ Bob Buchanan)
12. Jesse Joe's Cigarettes (Erin Enderlin/ Shane McAnally)
13. His Memory Walks on Water (Erin Enderlin/ Irene Kelley)
14. 'Till I Can Make It On My Own (Billy Sherril/ Tammy Wynette/ George Richey)
