~ Country music fans can’t come to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry, so Circle All Access and the Opry are bringing Saturday Night Opry to the globe. Tune in tonight for the Opry’s 4,917th consecutive Saturday night show as Vince Gill, Amy Grant, daughters Jenny Gill and Corrina Grant Gill take the stage for an intimate live performance. Tune in to the livestream event at 8PM ET / 7PM CT on Saturday, March 28 at Circle All Access on Facebook, or Circle All Access on YouTube.
~ Think a healthy thought for country legend Joe Diffie. Diffie, 61, has tested positive for COVID-19, he said via a statement. “I am under the care of medical professionals and currently receiving treatment. My family and I are asking for privacy at this time. We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious and careful during this pandemic,” Diffie said.
~ Craig Morgan unveiled the details on his upcoming latest album, God, Family, Country, set for release May 22 on Broken Bow. The album includes five new tracks and remastered versions of some songs recorded over the past six years along with his faith-filled tribute to his son Jerry, “The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost.” Says Morgan, “This album is based on everything that’s happened in my life and my career,” Craig says. “I feel like I have some of the most quality songs I’ve ever recorded, and there is a new energy here. After all I’ve been through, I’m at one of the most inspired places I’ve ever been.”
~ Watkins Family Hour, the acclaimed musical collective featuring Grammy Award-winning siblings Sara and Sean Watkins (also 2/3 of the band Nickel Creek) announced their upcoming new album, brother sister, which is due April 10 via Family Hour Records/Thirty Tigers. Of the project, Sara shares, “It felt really good to dig into the potential of two people…the primary goal of this record became to see what we could do when it is just the two of us. The arrangements and the writing were all focused on that. Listening now, I’m really proud of what we did. These are songs that would not have come out of either one of us individually and it feels like a band sound, like this is what we do, the two of us.”
~ Sarah Jarosz announced that she will be releasing her 5th solo album, World On The Ground, on June 5th. Says, Jarosz on the project, "World On The Ground captures the music that producer John Leventhal and I created in the control room of his home studio in Manhattan throughout the second half of 2019. Many of the performances that made it onto the album were often demos that neither of us thought would be the final takes. From the beginning of this recording process, John challenged me to be more detailed in my writing — to create lyrics that told a story. A wealth of ideas opened up from the moment we began working together, and so many of the images that emerged during the writing process were based on my memories of the landscape, the people, and my experiences growing up in the Texas Hill Country."
~ Kip Moore also announced an upcoming project announcing that his fourth album Wild World will be released on May 29. Says Moore on the new album, “We wanted this project to be more in-your-face. More earthy, more analog. I know it’s an unsettling time for a lot of people right now, and so my hope is that this music can bring even just one person some peace. I try to make music that reaches people in a pure sense – something that’s light and easy to carry with you, but 1000 pounds of weight at the same time, and I think Wild World is just a depiction of what I see. Life is one crazy, wild ride. But it can be so simple if we look for the right things, and I think that is more important than ever right now.”
~ The new album announcements just keep coming. Gwen Sebastian will be releasing the album sequel of sorts to her 2017 project with an April 24th release of Once Upon A Time In The West: Act II on Flying Island Records.
~ And last, but certainly not least, Lennon Stella has a new project coming out called Three. Two. One. out on April 24th as well. It is the debut album from the Nashville-based singer, songwriter, actress, and multi-instrumentalist. Stella first rose to popularity when she was just 12 years old as part of the duo Lennon & Maisy, alongside her younger sister. The pair gained national attention with a cover of Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend". Lennon then went on to star in the ABC/CMT smash television series Nashville as Maddie Conrad for six years.

Michael Martin Murphey To Release Austinology: Alleys of Austin in October
Artist: Michael Martin Murphey
Album: Austinology: Alleys of Austin
Label: Soundly Music
Release date: October 5, 2018
Fifty years after Murphey helped pioneer the Austin Music Scene (along with Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn and more) , his latest offering is a look at the seminal period of Austin’s music history that set the stage for the “Outlaw” movement with Nelson and Waylon Jennings, among others, and the live music scene that is still thriving there.
“Murphey was a key player in the Austin, TX phenomenon,” wrote noted journalist Craig Havighurst for WMOT — The String. “He was a regular at the Armadillo World Headquarters, the iconic venue at the heart of the live scene, where a diverse audience heard a diverse array of roots music, from hard country to traditional blues. Murphey, along with Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker and others forged a country-rock hybrid that became the foundation for the progressive folk music field we now call Americana.”
For Austinology, Murphey chose songs — including some by the likes of Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt and Jerry Jeff Walker — that were important to the late 1960s and 1970s when he lived in Austin and created the “Cosmic Cowboy” era.
Murphey is joined on the project by several artists who were integral to that era as well as those influenced by the work they created.
The songs are given a fresh reading by Murphey and his special guests, including Willie Nelson (on “Alleys of Austin” and “Cosmic Cowboy”), Steve Earle (on “Geronimo’s Cadillac”), Lyle Lovett (on “Alleys of Austin,” “Cosmic Cowboy” and “Drunken Lady of the Morning”), Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison (on “Little Bird”), Jerry Jeff Walker (on “Cosmic Cowboy”), Amy Grant (on “Wildfire”), Randy Rogers (“Backslider’s Wine”), The Last Bandoleros (on Guy Clark’s “LA Freeway”) and more.
Murphey, who plays and sounds better than ever, also enlisted some of the finest players in the world, including guitarist Kenny Greenberg (Nelson, Bob Seger, Etta James), dobroist Rob Ickes (Earl Scruggs, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill), keyboardist Tim Akers (Dolly Parton, Bruce Hornsby, Jimmy Webb) and more. The album is co-produced with Christopher Harris (CeCe Winans, Amy Grant).

I believe the spirit of the music is just as relevant today as it was when these songs first bloomed.”

Album: The House Sessions EP
Label: Jenny Gill Music

Country Artists Record Children's Hospital Benefit Album
Heartfelt songs penned by a group of patients of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt while working with their music therapist are being released May 14 worldwide on a compilation CD featuring some of Nashville's top recording stars.
Artists Kix Brooks, Melinda Doolittle, Fisk Jubilee Singers, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Faith Hill, Alison Krauss, Maura O'Connell, Johnny Reid, SHEL and Phil Vassar breathe life into songs written by patients Austin Bagby, Ethan Carpenter, Courtney Gaoette, Erica Kilburn, Amy Overton, Gigi Pasley and Christopher Weber, along with music therapist Jenny Plume.
Everybody Has A Story is a selection of songs written by patients over the past six years, each song the result of a clinical music therapy session involving the patient and music therapist Jenny Plume. The patients who participated were treated for a variety of chronic illnesses such as cancer and cystic fibrosis, two were heart transplant recipients, and one was hospitalized for pneumonia.
Plume helped patients shape their thoughts and feelings into lyrics and a melody. Some lyrics were crafted out of a story idea, and some were created by long discussions about the patients' feelings and situations. The song topics range from serious to fun and silly.
Sometimes we wrote about a real life experience, other times I would ask questions and the answers would make the lyrics, sometimes we used their poems, Plume said. So, it was very collaborative, with me trying to draw those ideas and words out of them.
I hope they will go on to know that they can do anything, they can create things, and hopefully music will always be in their lives. For those patients who have passed on, this will be a legacy to celebrate their lives. Proceeds from the sales of this CD will benefit the Julian T. Fouce Music Therapy Fund, founded at Vanderbilt in 2007 by Tom and Maria Fouce in memory of their son, Julian, a great lover of music. Julian died in 2005 after a long battle with leukemia.
Plume's idea of making a CD to celebrate her patients' talents mixed well with Tom Fouce, a Music Row recording engineer who approached his industry contacts to see if there was interest in having the songs brought to life by professional artists. The artists enthusiastically agreed to donate their voices and time.
Visit EverybodyHasAStoryCD.com for more information, including a video chronicling the making of the CD with artist and patient interviews.

Amy Grant Announces 5/7 Release Date For How Mercy Looks From Here
Amy Grant announced that she will releasing a brand new album of new material called How Mercy Looks From Here on May 7. The project has taken a year from start to finish and features a handful of unannounced guest stars. The album will mark her first all-new album of new material in almost a decade.
The title song, “How Mercy Looks From Here,” was inspired by the Nashville flood. Grant’s home was one of only two on her street that wasn’t flooded.
“I worked on a house of a music friend of mine who said, ‘When the water in the house was up to our armpits, I had a standing lamp that was on. I can’t believe we weren’t electrocuted,’ ” she says.
That title song also references her father’s dementia – a story she shared last spring in People magazine. Her recounting of the former medical doctor’s struggle touched many readers who aren’t even Grant’s fans.
“Standing in the grocery store line, in the carpool line – I’ve gotten so much response from that. At Radio City Music Hall backstage, I hear, ‘I’m in the same situation,’ ” she says.
“It’s word salad and nonsensical, except phrases he’s had his whole life, like ‘I’m proud of you’ and ‘I love you,’ she says of his failing communication skills. “It really simplifies your connection with somebody when words are taken away.”
“I have a line in the flood song that’s about my dad and talking about loss – ‘A brilliant mind that fades away,’ ” she says. The subject is still so close to home she hasn’t addressed it in song much. “There are times in life where there’s too much to say.”

Vince Gill Reveals Details About Upcoming 2011 Album Release
Country Music Hall of Fame member Vince Gill is preparing to release a new album, the follow-up to his 2006 Grammy-winning 4-disc collection These Days.
In an interview with Oklahoman newspaper NewsOK writer, Brandy McDonnell, Gill shared some details on what to expect on his upcoming release.
In an interview with Oklahoman newspaper NewsOK writer, Brandy McDonnell, Gill shared some details on what to expect on his upcoming release.
“The running gag is ‘How many songs are on this one? Do you have an eight-CD record?’ ” he said, laughing. “I just showed up with the songs I showed up with for this new record. And at this point in life, to me, the real success is measured in my own improvement, not in how many records get sold or if they get played on the radio. My records don’t get played on the radio as much as they used to; I wish they did, but they don’t. I never quit hoping that will happen again, but if it doesn’t, that’s OK, too. It never has defined the results of these records.
“The last three or four records I’ve made, I’ve felt like I made great strides in improving — better songs, better singing, better playing, better grooves, better feel, better sound. ... There’s so many ways to find yourself getting better at what you’re doing. It may not get noticed like it did before, but you can’t let that be your barometer and your definition of whether it’s good or not.”
The forthcoming album, which he has yet to give a title, will be just one CD, but he can hear improvements in his songcraft.
“It’s what was in my heart. There’s some really beautiful songs on here, there’s some really sad songs on here, and good, make-you-think songs.”
While “These Days” featured an array of guest stars including Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall, Bonnie Raitt, along with fellow Oklahomans Trisha Yearwood and Katrina Elam, Gill is keeping his 2011 album strictly a family affair. His wife, Amy Grant, and Jenny Gill will again sing with him on the new album, but they aren’t the only ones.
“My daughter Corrina, who is 9, is making her singing debut on this record, singing with me. You know, she watches an awful lot of Disney Channel, and I’m trying to steer her to the blues side of music,” he said. “And I had this song, this friend of mine ... that last year had a real rough stretch and unfortunately he murdered a woman and then took his own life a short time after that. He was one of my golfing buddies, and I wrote this song for him called ‘Billy Paul.’ ”
He played the song in the car one morning while driving the girl to school, and she wanted to hear it again.
“I played it again, and by the time it was finished, she was back there just singing like a bird. ... She was really taken with this song, and it’s a song about the whole of what happened. You know, very dark. So I had this idea of what it would be like if she sang on it. It would either be really haunting or really horrible,” he said with a laugh.
“So I took her into the studio, and she sang along with me, and it’s really haunting. So, I wanted to get just a little bit of Disney Channel out of her brain, and now to have her first song be a murder-suicide ballad in the great tradition of country music, I asked Amy, ‘Is this really wrong?’ And she was like, ‘No it’s really great, it’s really awesome.’ ”
