"This record and the song really represent who I am as an artist- the country-rock and blues side of me," he tells Popeater.com. "I'm from Alabama, so there is definitely some country origins in my background, both musically and personally."
That’s the quote from American Idol winner Taylor Hicks about his new “country” single and music video "Seven Mile Breakdown" that you can watch below that has just hit the airwaves. (Email subscribers, hit the headline to watch the video.)
Yeah...I stopped it when I saw the woman crawling around in underwear.
ReplyDeleteKinda sick of sex being exploited.
/shrug
//everyone else is doing it sooo...
I like this one because I love southern blues and country songs with slide guitars and a great beat. Taylor Hicks does a good job on it, I think. As for the underwear, it could have been worse. I'm sure it adds interest for some, but, I think, in general, it's a good video that fits the song. The sunset is gorgeous and the lighting is nice for the evening meadow concert.
ReplyDeleteGood voice. This is the kind of country song I like. If you watch the video all the way through, you will see that it's pretty wholesome. He's great looking, too.
ReplyDeleteHe's hot. I'm gonna buy the song now lol.

I'm a Vince Gill fan myself but have to say I really enjoyed that video - lots of fun. Didn't realize Hicks could sing like that -love southern rock. Song has lots of energy & the instrumentals are awesome. I'll buy this song.
ReplyDeleteThis video is good. Never liked Hicks before. But in all fairness. The dude rocks.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've watched this six times on max screen and I love the song. More than country(ish) it is southern rock. I'd meet Taylor in that car for a long ride anytime, any place! Hope to hear more of him on radio.
ReplyDeleteThought the pink panties were an indication that it was going to be a racy vid, but quite the contrary it is really wholesome. I mean as wholesome as it can be with someone as hot as Taylor in it. Love the song, definitely southern rock meets country.
ReplyDeleteI love this video so much.Taylor is a true country boy and so HOTTTT!!!! and can rock a song. Fantastic instrumentals and love the countryside vibe throughout.. I give it a A+++
ReplyDeleteThe car is sweet, like the song has a great beat and I think I need some of those pink panties. I probably wouldn't kick Hicks out either. lol good song, good vid.

ReplyDeleteWow, I guess I didn't realize that Taylor Hicks had a new album out - and does he really play his own guitar too?! I really enjoyed this video, more than I thought I would. Nice southern rock catchy tune.

ReplyDeleteI thought Taylor Hicks was that fat clown from American Idol.
ReplyDeleteIt appears all that he kept was the grey hair. This cowboy is hawt!
Going back to watch the vid again. Already dl the tune.
pick up a copy of "the distance". it is a great cd....this song is on it. love the video. can't wait to hear it on the radio....
ReplyDeleteHicks is no longer that "fat clown" from AI. He's arrived. He's hot. He sounds great and he deserves some long awaited props.
ReplyDeleteGreat country song and video. I would love to crank up the radio and listen to this song while I am driving the back roads of Alabama. Video makes me wish I had a convertable instead of my mini van
ReplyDeleteReal Southern rock is alive and well after all in the hands and mouth of Taylor Hicks! A great, throw down the glove rock-out. Love it! Really like this guy's voice; it's genuine. Ya got any more videos/songs of his for us?
ReplyDeleteI just ran across this so I don't suppose you will ever see my comment BUT I don't know why you are so fond of the quotation marks in your article.
ReplyDeleteThis song and the man singing it could breathe a little fresh life into the country world and it badly needs it right now. I have turned my country radio off and I won't turn it on again until all the pop singers are gone.
This song is a hundred times more country than Taylor Swift who is not country at all. Not even close. She and a couple others like her are ruining country music. Maybe a little southern rock would do some good. Wake up.
I think my quotations were more targeted towards the artist and less towards the song itself. Country music radio crosses a lot of genres at the moment, from Taylor Swift "pop-country" to Kid Rock "rock-country." There is no argument that prior to this release, Taylor Hicks wasn't even thought of in country circles. And unfortunatley due to country music radio not embracing this single in the least, it's doubtful that they will be. I personally like the song, but it does trend on the edges of what country radio considers mainstream country right now.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Seven Mile Breakdown is not the mainstream country pop played on country radio today. It is neither banal nor bland. Is that why country radio won't play this song?
ReplyDeleteI am a country music fan, and I'm ready for something different, and more adult than the easy listening country songs that dominate radio play.
