Andy Griffith (born June 1, 1926 and today an amazing 83 years young) is an American icon. He gained prominence in the starring role in director Elia Kazan's epic film A Face in the Crowd (1957) before he became better known for his television roles, playing the lead characters in the 1960s sitcom, The Andy Griffith Show, and in the 1980s-1990s legal drama, Matlock. But he has also played a major role in country music along the way as well. Griffith received a Grammy Award for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album for I Love to Tell the Story - 25 Timeless Hymns in 1997 and frequently had bluegrass and country guests like The Darlings on his show.
In 1999 Griffith was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Celebrate his big day with a quick watch of he and Joanna Moore singing the old country standard Down In The Valley on the Andy Griffith Show here…
Lovely song by Joanna Moore accompanied by Andy Griffith, they were so complimentary.
