Singer/songwriter and golf enthusiast Steve Azar will join 13-time PGA Champion Kenny Perry on the Golf Channel's new TV series, Playing Lessons From the Pros on July 6, 2009 at 10pm/ET. Playing Lessons From the Pros is a half-hour golf instructional that features top PGA & LPGA Tour professionals and celebrities in a casual round of golf. The series will allow the viewer to become acquainted with their favorite golfers and celebrities while they learn how the best players in the world play this great game.
In this episode, Perry gives Azar a lesson at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Kentucky and viewers learn how to fine-tune a short game and discover Azar's secret to long drives. They also receive ample lessons from the man responsible for turning around Perry's game - instructor, Matt Killen. Azar is best known for his hits "I Don't Have to Be Me ('Til Monday)," "Waitin' On Joe," and recent charting hits, "You Don't Know A Thing," and "You're My Life." With the release of Indianola last year, Azar introduced listeners to his Delta roots and his bluesy, hard-biting country rock style. The CD earned praise from mainstream critics including Billboard Magazine and Performing Songwriter, who called it one of the year's best.
When Azar is not touring, he keeps his golf swing fresh by playing several charity golf tournaments each year. Recent tournaments include Gourmet Weekend, The Murray Bros. Caddyshack Golf Tournament, The Campbell Chevrolet Celebrity Golf Classic, a tournament he co-hosted with PGA Champion John Daly in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and the BMW Pro-Charity AM Golf Tournament.
A seasoned performer, Azar has been entertaining live audiences since his days as a college student at Delta State University. One of the biggest highlights of his career was when he toured with Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band in 2007, selling out arenas in major cities across the country. He is presently headlining his own shows at fairs and festivals throughout the summer.
On Tuesday, August 4, Azar will release Slide On Over Here, his new album co-produced with famed producer Justin Niebank for Azar's indie label, Ride Records. The project's lead single, "Moo La Moo," was co-written by Azar and is presently airing on country radio.
