The Background:Powerhouse duo Sugarland have launched their fourth record titled Live On The Inside. The CD/DVD set consists of live tracks and performance footage from their Love On The Inside Tour . Filmed in high-definition in Lexington, Kentucky by director Shaun Silva with 20 cameras, the duo's artistic and innovative live show comes to life on the DVD with 16 songs and over an hour of live performance footage. Fans will find all five of their No.1 hits ("Want To", "Settlin'", "Stay", "All I Want To Do" and "It Happens"), as well as many other chart toppers on the DVD. The 10-track CD includes some of Sugarland’s most popular songs performed "live" by Sugarland but also several covers.
The Review:
Sugarland took the recipe for a successful live album- the pseudo-greatest hits package, everything being louder (usually with more electric guitars, and lots of audience interplay- and did… exactly the opposite. Yet by throwing it out the window, they’ve created something more personal and more Sugarland. Behind Jennifer Nettles distinctive vocals, such an advantage in this country radio landscape, the album only includes four Sugarland originals. The album is 180 degrees from the typical live album, which probably why it is so refreshing. There are a couple of obligatory hits. The beautiful renditions of “Love” and “Stay” hit the mark perfectly. But this album (and even the DVD) is all about the covers- hits made famous by Beyonce, B-52's, Pearl Jam, Edie Brickell, Kings of Leon and R.E.M. Everything’s more acoustic and there’s even more of Kristian Bush’s welcome voice which, being more rough and gravelly, is the perfect contrast to Nettles. For the Sugarland fan, this is a must have. Four the casual country music lover, this is Sugarland’s live show caught perfectly.
