Songwriter and Artist Susanna Clark Passes Away

Guy and Susanna Clark
Beloved songwriter and artist Susanna Clark died in her sleep sometime during Tuesday night. She was 73.

Clark was probably best known for her art. Her most-famous piece of work became the cover image for Willie Nelson's legendary "Stardust" album. She also co-wrote "Easy From Now On" for Emmylou Harris. She also painted album covers for Harris and Nanci Griffith.

Clark was well-known as the longtime wife and companion of songwriter and Texas legend, Guy Clark. In addition to his creative foil, she served as a muse and sometimes character in his songs, most famously "L.A. Freeway," which documented their flight from Los Angeles, which ultimately landed them in Nashville in the early 1970s, where their home became a hub for songwriting masters including Clark and Townes Van Zandt and students Rodney Crowell and Steve Earle.

Below is one of the tracks Susanna Clark wrote for her husband, Guy.
