Artist: Charlie Daniels Band
Album: Nighthawk
Label: BFD
Release date: Aug. 26, 2016
Newly crowned Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie Daniels will be turning 80 this next year, but he's not slowing down a bit, planning a new acoustic album of cowboy songs that he's been holding onto for some time. The project will be out on August 26, 2016.
According to Daniels, the project is, "called Nighthawk and it’s an album of some cowboy songs that I have been — I can’t say “collecting” but at least aware of for a number of years that I wanted to record. A lot of them are songs people haven’t actually heard because they’re kind of obscure, maybe songs that weren’t recorded or were recorded in a way nobody had really heard them before. It lent itself to a campfire, front-porch type of an approach, an acoustic sound that would not have drums or electric instruments on it. It’s that kind of an album — campfire songs and that sort of thing. When I say “campfire,” it sounds like I’m talking about a Boy Scout thing! It’s not that at all. It’s an album that you really need to listen to the lyrics on it, because the lyrics are meaningful on a lot of this stuff."
“In my years of music, we've never tried to follow trends. We just made our brand of music. I've just always tried to deliver the best music I can to the fans. Most of our songs have a timeless message or story. I think that's probably what makes our music transcend time,” said Daniels.
Daniels said the acoustic album is a tribute to working cowboys. A voracious reader, Daniels reads three to four books at a time on his iPad. He said Westerns are among his favorite fiction works.
“I think I’ve read everything Louis L’Amour ever wrote,” he said.
