Artist: Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell has one more project that will see the light of day. Grammy-winning guitarist and singer Glen Campbell is releasing his final studio album, recorded shortly after his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis in 2011.
The record label, Universal Music Enterprises, announced Friday that the album, Adios, will be released on June 9. Campbell hasn’t performed since 2012 and is in a long-term care facility, but his wife, Kim Campbell, said in a statement that he felt a sense of urgency after his diagnosis to record one last time.
“Glen’s abilities to play, sing and remember songs began to rapidly decline after his diagnosis in 2011,” Campbell’s wife Kim writes in the album liner notes (quotes via PEOPLE). “A feeling of urgency grew to get him into the studio one last time to capture what magic was left. It was now or never.”
Among the track listing is a cover of Harry Nilsson’s song “Everybody’s Talkin.” The inspiration to record the song came after the couple spent an afternoon with Campbell’s longtime banjo player Carl Jackson, who set the couple up more than 30 years ago.
“We reminisced about all of the songs that Glen had always wanted to record but had never gotten around to,” continues Kim in the notes. “Carl laid down some basic tracks and vocals for Glen to study and practice in preparation for his final session.”
“Glen was barely able to remember the words that he was singing at times. Carl held up sheets of paper with large print lyrics and fed them to him one line at a time,” she adds.
In addition to Campbell’s vocals, the family enlisted the help of Willie Nelson, Vince Gill and the couple’s children (Ashley, Shannon and Cal) for added depth to each track.
“All of the laughing, crying (we laughed much more than we cried!) and singing were certainly bittersweet, but more than worthwhile when listening back to the finished album today,” Kim concludes. “What you’re hearing … is the beautiful and loving culmination of friends and family doing their very best for the man who inspired, raised and entertained them for decades — giving him the chance to say one last goodbye to his fans.”
