Now, one month after releasing her debut EP Pronoia, she returns with "You're the Reason I Drink." It's a smart, sharp-witted track that upends the traditional formula of a drinking song, with Kelly happily toasting the end of a no-good relationship. A celebration of confidence and freedom, the song showcases the songwriting savvy and a nuanced delivery of a musician who's built a thriving career not only onstage, but onscreen, too.
"'You’re the Reason I Drink' is a cheeky song about celebrating how far you have come while getting over an ex," says Monrow, who has starred in series like "Billions," "Lucifer," "American Crime Story," and the upcoming film Three Days Rising under the name Kelly Dowdle.
Like Charles Esten and Dolly Parton, Kelly Monrow seamlessly blends her careers in acting and country music. Both are natural extensions of her creative self, built around storytelling and an authentic delivery. She made her musical debut during the final months of 2021, releasing the singles "Mama Said" and "I'm Alive" in October and November, respectively, before returning in December with the three-song EP Pronoia. "You're the Reason I Drink" appears one month later, officially debuting on January 21st and shining new light on an entertainer who continues to evolve and electrify.
"During the pandemic, I decided if I can’t be hired to play the role of someone else I better discover ways I can be creative being the real me. Then the lyrics started pouring out of me and I decided I have a lot to say. Music has helped me through every phase of my life so maybe a lyric of mine can help the heart or mind of another. That’s when I fell in love with creating music," she adds.
