When Charlie Daniels took the stage at the Country Music Hall of Fame in the beautiful Ford Theater on April 25, 2005 to perform songs from his Grammy-nominated album Songs From The Longleaf Pines, the packed house had no idea what a historical evening it would turn out to be.
Over the course of the evening, Daniels invited several of his personal friends and bluegrass heroes up on stage that night for a good ol' fashioned jam session. It's truly a instrumentalization marvel. Fortunately, those performances were caught on tape, and the result is a fascinating night of music. It's a blessing to watch.
Musicians on the stage that night included Mac Wiseman, Earl, Gary and Randy Scruggs, Del, Ronnie and Rob McCoury and Sharon, Cheryl and Buck White. Shot with a simple three camera set-up, the DVD gets to the heart of Charlie's roots and the gospel-bluegrass music he grew up with. It's an intimate snapshot into what brought Charlie into the music business.
The real gem of the DVD, however, is the "extras" from the DVD. There's great interviews with Charlie wehre he reflects back on the early days of the Charlie Daniels Band, playing with the Earl Scruggs Review and many of his good friends. With a career that spans 50 amazing years, it's and incredible journey for the legendary fiddle player.
Amazon has this great DVD for sale for $12.99 and it can be purchased here: Preachin', Prayin', Singin'.
